Summary: The optimal storage scenario at household level to avoid food waste and with the lowest environmental footprint was determined. Unbagged broccoli at 7°C showed the best quality and lowest environmental footprint for short-term storage, while using a bag and storing at 5°C helped to reduce food waste with the lowest environmental footprint for long-term storage.

Summary: This study examines the extent and determinants of food loss and waste (FLW) along tomato supply chains in South India using multiple estimation approaches. It also explores tomato quality assessments. The findings suggest that single-point estimates may obscure FLW patterns and reducing FLW of perishables requires the integration of quantitative and qualitative estimation methods.

Summary: Sleep is important for survival, but the time dedicated to sleep has been reduced in industrialized countries. This reduction may contribute to the increase in obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Conversely, obesity is associated with sleep disorders. Understanding the physiological and molecular pathways involved in sleep regulation and metabolic homeostasis could improve metabolic health. Strategies aimed at weight loss may benefit both cardiometabolic risk and sleep quality.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate weight self-perception, misperception, and weight loss attempts in Chinese adults, especially among cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular patients. The results showed that weight misperception was highly prevalent among both cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular patients. Women, individuals with lower education levels, and obese respondents were more prone to weight misperception. However, there was no significant difference in the purpose of weight loss attempts between cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular patients.

Summary: Obesity is a multi-factorial disease with complex pathological mechanisms. The regulation of food intake and appetite involves multiple systems that are sensitive to environmental cues, potentially leading to overconsumption. Dieting may trigger metabolic responses that make weight loss more challenging.

Summary: The study shows that post-harvest weight loss in vegetables is primarily due to water-related factors and storage conditions play a significant role in preserving freshness. The international standard IEC 63169:2020 uses a food simulant to test the impact of humidity-controlled storage on weight loss, demonstrating its applicability and providing repeatable and reproducible results for analyzing the effects of storage on vegetable quality.

Summary: Cash transfers have been shown to improve birth outcomes by reducing stress, rather than improving nutrition or healthcare use. A study in Switzerland, where healthcare access is near-universal, found that unemployment benefits reduced birthweight and body length of children when mothers were unemployed, suggesting that cash transfers play a role in newborn health in most contexts.

Summary: This study assessed the efficacy and safety of oral semaglutide in overweight or obese adults without type 2 diabetes. The findings showed that oral semaglutide 50 mg once per day led to a significantly greater reduction in bodyweight compared to placebo. Gastrointestinal adverse events were the most common side effects. Oral semaglutide could be an effective option for weight management.

Summary: The ketogenic diet has been used in epilepsy treatment for a long time and recently introduced for obesity. This review investigates its effects on vitamin D and finds that most studies report increased levels of circulating vitamin D. The relationship between the ketogenic diet and vitamin D is explained through various mechanisms such as ketone bodies, macronutrient intake, fat-soluble vitamin levels, weight loss, hormonal changes, and effects on gut microbiota. Further studies comparing the ketogenic diet with other diets and exploring its specific effects on vitamin D levels and metabolism are needed. Additionally, investigations on the diet's effects according to sex and genetic makeup should be conducted for personalized recommendations.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of promoting fruit and vegetable consumption on the body weight of Brazilian primary health care users in the medium and long term. Results showed that there was no significant impact on weight, but individuals with obesity classes II and III who had low adherence to the intervention experienced greater weight loss after 36 months.

Summary: The study found that increasing vegetable consumption was negatively associated with weight change, while increasing fruit consumption was positively associated with weight change. The influence of fruits and vegetables on weight change may depend on the characteristics of the fruits and vegetables.

Summary: Sarcopenia, sarcopenic obesity, frailty, and cachexia all involve skeletal muscle as a main component. Whole-body magnetic resonance imaging is the reference method for measuring skeletal muscle mass, but dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry appendicular lean mass can serve as a practical surrogate. This study developed and validated prediction equations for total body and extremity skeletal muscle mass using a large sample, providing an important opportunity for evaluating skeletal muscle mass in research and clinical settings.

Summary: The study found wide variability in the ways that the client-dietitian relationship was expressed across curriculum documents of Australian dietetics education programs. Program coordinators perceived this variability, acknowledging limitations of analysing data from curriculum documents. The client-dietitian relationship appears inconsistently embedded in the curriculum despite its importance.

Summary: Both OAGB and RYGB result in significant weight loss with similar outcomes, although OAGB patients experience greater weight loss and more severe gastrointestinal symptoms. Nutritional disorders are common in both groups and worsen over time. Prospective and longer-term studies on the nutritional and gastrointestinal health of OAGB patients are warranted.

Summary: Evidence-based guidelines provide recommendations on how dietitians should work with head and neck cancer patients for best outcomes. Research with healthcare professionals from these teams found that factors such as experience, care plans, clinic structuring, culture, and guidelines can influence how dietitians' roles are enacted in practice. Further research is needed to strengthen recommendations on how dietitians should work with head and neck cancer patients internationally.

Summary: This study aimed to identify nutritional abnormalities, weight loss, adherence to supplements, and presence of gastrointestinal symptoms in a cohort of bariatric surgical patients. The results showed that despite achieving durable weight loss, nutritional and related abnormalities remain a challenge for bariatric surgery. Adherence to nutrient supplements decreased over time, and gastrointestinal symptoms were common in the initial stages following surgery.

Summary: This study investigates dietitians' perspectives on the relationship between diet and gut health, as well as the current and emerging role of dietetics practice in this area. It finds that the current evidence is insufficient to guide practice change and that dietitians lack confidence in their management of gut microbiome-related issues. However, they show a strong commitment to evidence-based practice and seek out evidence-based information.

Summary: In this comprehensive review, the authors summarize the current knowledge on the effects of nut consumption on blood lipids and lipoproteins. Meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials consistently show that most nuts, including walnuts, almonds, cashews, peanuts, and pistachios, have a beneficial effect on total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and triglycerides. However, no effect on HDL-cholesterol is observed. Preliminary evidence suggests that adding nuts to the regular diet improves ApoB levels and HDL function. The evidence indicates that nut-enriched diets are associated with a reduced number of total LDL particles and small, dense LDL particles.

Summary: This paper explores the impact of nutrition and health claims on consumer behavior, using the Australian experience as a reference point. It identifies evolving regulatory challenges and the need for better understanding of how consumers interpret and act on specific claims. The study finds that while these claims can influence consumer food purchasing and consumption, there is still limited knowledge on how consumers interpret and act on them.
