Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the various activities of the Cupressus sempervirens essential oil (CSEO), including antioxidant, antibiofilm, antimicrobial, insecticidal, and antiproliferative activities. The chemical composition of CSEO was determined, revealing the dominance of alpha-pinene and delta-3-carene. CSEO showed strong antioxidant activity, higher antibacterial efficacy, moderate antifungal activity, and demonstrated insecticidal effects. It also had no negative effects on normal cells but showed antiproliferative effects on certain cancer cells. Overall, CSEO has potential as an alternative treatment for various microorganisms and control of pests.

Summary: This study isolated, purified, and identified phenols from celery leaves and evaluated their antioxidant activities. A total of seven polyphenol monomers were identified, and chrysoeriol 7-O-glucoside was identified for the first time. The polyphenol monomers exhibited significant DPPH· and ABTS+· scavenging capacities. The position and quantity of hydroxyl groups on the B-ring and the methylation degree of 3-OH played a crucial role in regulating antioxidant activities.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of pretreatment and freezing storage on the nutritional quality of Chinese celery cultivar 'Lvlin Huangxinqin' and Western celery cultivar 'Jinnan Shiqin' after postharvest. Blanching at 60 degrees C for 120 s and blanching at 75 degrees C for 75 s were the most effective pretreatments for 'Lvlin Huang-xinqin' and 'Jinnan Shiqin' respectively. These pretreatments effectively maintained the level of various nutrients during freezing storage. The findings suggest that blanching and quick-freezing treatments are beneficial for preserving the nutritional quality of celery.

Summary: Pate, a by-product of olive oil production, is rich in phenolic compounds and can be used as a food ingredient to reduce environmental impact and promote circular economy. The effects of a hydroalcoholic extract of pate were evaluated in AGS human cell line, showing no significant impact on cell viability, cycle, proliferation, and migration. The extract also counteracted the enzymatic activity alterations caused by oxidative stress.
