Summary: This research proposes a flexible production-inventory system that produces multiple parts of a product. Defective products are immediately remanufactured after inspection. The study considers limited budget and space constraints, as well as product assembly. Non-linear equations based on different distribution functions are calculated using the Kuhn-Tucker optimization technique. Numerical examples, graphical representation, and sensitivity analysis are presented. The research focuses on electronic products that are more likely to be defective rather than perfect during production.

Summary: This article proposes a method for generating fuzzy random variables based on alpha-cuts and uniform random numbers. It proves a form of alpha-invariance for a class of fuzzy numbers (FNs) and provides exact equations for random variable generators for some well-known singleton-core FNs. Applications to univariate/bivariate FNs, two optimization inventory models are discussed in the obtained results.

Summary: The influence of extrusion infill angles on the mechanical properties of 3D printed test specimens were investigated in this study. Different polylactide (PLA) specimens with varying infill angles were manufactured and tested using Computed Tomography (CT) scanning and optical measuring system. The results showed significant deviation between the real geometry behavior and the model. Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations were also conducted, which predicted an increase in stiffness, ultimate tensile strength, and strain at failure due to geometric deviation. The goal of this work is to evaluate the stiffness and strength of FFF-printed components using FEM with a justifiable testing effort, considering the directional dependence and suitable strength criterion.

Summary: This study presents an integrated model of maintenance and statistical process control (SPC) for a production process with three states. The proposed model can monitor the quality of the process's output and perform minor repairs to restore the process to an in-control state. It is a general model that can be applied to different working conditions.

Summary: This paper analyzes the technical and economic feasibility of industrial-scale production of solketal from glycerol. The study shows that the process is economically viable if the sale price of solketal is higher than 2,400 USD/t, even for small-scale plants. Additionally, reducing the cost of cooling water has a greater impact on profitability than prolonging the catalyst's useful life.

Summary: The first objective of this paper is to solve the practical problem of modeling and identifying the performance of a discrete event production system. Internet of Things tools are used to obtain time-driven data on the metal processing time of shot blasting machines, which are used to develop a state-space model using fuzzy logic and max-plus algebraic paradigms. The proposed strategy allows for a trade-off between overall system performance and economic and health-aware indicators. A practical proof-of-concept production system is used to illustrate the benefits of the proposed approach.

Summary: This research aims to design the conversion process of ethanol into a more valuable product, such as diethyl ether (DEE). Experimental results show that using anhydrous ethanol for DEE production is more profitable compared to using hydrous ethanol, which results in acetaldehyde formation. By implementing the right technology for acetaldehyde removal, the process using hydrous ethanol can also become profitable.

Summary: This work applies process simulation to analyze the technical and economic bottlenecks of industrial green diesel production in the Brazilian market. The study suggests that while a standalone green diesel production process may not be economically viable, incorporating it into existing refineries can lead to significant cost reductions and potential competitiveness with conventional diesel.

Summary: The development and application of novel technologies in food processing is important for ensuring the availability of safe and convenient food with desired quality and functional properties. This study investigates the environmental and economic feasibility of ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) for recovering functional food ingredients from seaweed. The findings show that UAE has lower environmental impacts and good economic feasibility, supporting its adoption in functional ingredient production.

Summary: This study aims to simulate and economically compare alternative processes for the production and treatment of biogas from vinasse, the main residue of ethanol production. The results showed that using an anaerobic lagoon and silica gel adsorption for water removal is the best process alternative for biogas treatment.

Summary: In order to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, biodiesel production in Brazil has increased, leading to a surplus of glycerol as a byproduct. This study aims to assess the technical and economic feasibility of converting glycerol into propylene through hydrogenolysis and subsequent polymerization into atactic homopolymer polypropylene. Computer simulations using Aspen Plus v8.8 and literature information were employed. Glycerol hydrogenolysis showed high production costs compared to other propylene production routes. The polymerization process was economically viable, but integrating it with the hydrogenolysis process resulted in polypropylene with a price disadvantage compared to the market price due to the large excess of hydrogen required for the hydrogenolysis reaction and the high costs of glycerol and effluent disposal.

Summary: This paper formulates a model for the stochastic optimal production control problem of a manufacturing system with deteriorating items and solves the optimality conditions using time-dependent second order Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equations. The model is applicable to a multi-product, single machine production system, taking into account the characteristics of machine failure and repair times.

Summary: Real-time production performance evaluation is crucial for diagnosing manufacturing system health and improving productivity, but studies focusing on systems with variable cycle time machines are often overlooked. With the development of smart manufacturing and increased availability of sensor data, data-driven methodologies can efficiently identify and predict real-time permanent production loss.

Summary: The repositioning of empty containers from surplus to shortage areas results in economies of scope for transportation services. The liner company should focus on fewer forwarders while the forwarders should expand service scope. The order of canvassing routes with low potential market demand may not necessarily be optimal for the liner company.
