Summary: A study compared the performance of 2D and 3D laparoscopy in preserving urogenital and anorectal function in TME+ANP surgery for rectal cancer. The results showed that 3D laparoscopic TME was associated with lower incidences of postoperative sexual and urinary dysfunction than 2D laparoscopic TME in male patients.

Summary: This study compared the clinical efficacy of laparoscopic pectopexy and laparoscopic high uterosacral ligament suspension in women with apical prolapse. The results showed that both procedures significantly improved the quality of life and sexual function of patients. However, laparoscopic pectopexy had a more satisfactory anatomical reduction and lower postoperative complications compared to laparoscopic high uterosacral ligament suspension.

Summary: This systematic review compared urogenital functions after laparoscopic (LAP) and robotic (ROB) surgery for rectal cancer, finding that the risk of 30-day urinary retention was lower in the ROB group. Additionally, the International Prostate Symptom Score at 3 months and the International Index of Erectile Function score at 6 months were better in the ROB group. However, the quality of evidence for the improvement in urogenital function after rectal surgery with robotics was deemed low.

Summary: The study found that transvaginal specimen removal significantly improved intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, and postoperative pain relief in patients with colorectal cancer. Additionally, patients who underwent this procedure demonstrated higher quality of life and survival rates postoperatively compared to traditional methods. The safety and effectiveness of this approach suggest it is worthy of further clinical implementation.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the urinary, bowel, and sexual functioning of rectal cancer patients who underwent open or laparoscopic surgery. The results showed that patients who underwent open surgery had fewer symptoms in bowel and sexual functioning. However, it remains difficult to recommend one surgical approach over the other for rectal resection.

Summary: The study finds that combining protein signatures in urine with fecal immunochemical tests improves the sensitivity for detecting colorectal cancer, and corrects diagnosis in some patients with negative test results. The protein biomarkers in urine also reflect changes in tissue.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of laparoscopic functional total mesorectum excision (TME) on urinary and sexual functions in male patients with rectal cancer. The results showed that functional TME surgery was beneficial to faster recovery of urinary and sexual function for patients.

Summary: A meta-analysis comparing the urinary and sexual outcomes of robot-assisted rectal cancer surgery (RRCS) and laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery (LRCS) found that RRCS had significantly lower International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and higher International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) scores compared to LRCS at various time points. This suggests that RRCS may achieve better recovery of urological and sexual function in patients with rectal cancer.

Summary: This study evaluated sexual health, gastrointestinal function, and quality of life among colorectal cancer survivors in Singapore. It found that cancer stage and type, as well as socioeconomic status, significantly impacted quality of life. Regular patient-doctor contact may help in maintaining positive perspectives of cancer survivors.

Summary: Men have higher incidence and mortality rates of colorectal cancer (CRC) than women. This study explains the sexual dimorphism in CRC by examining sex-biased gut microbiota and metabolites. The results show that male mice and pseudo-germ mice receiving fecal samples from males have larger tumors and impaired gut barrier function. Changes in gut microbiota composition, including increased pathogenic bacteria and decreased probiotic bacteria, were observed in male mice and pseudo-germ mice. Sex-biased gut metabolites contribute to the sex dimorphism in CRC through glycerophospholipids metabolism pathway. Modulating sex-biased gut microbiota and metabolites could be a potential therapeutic strategy for CRC.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of stoma on sexual function in colorectal cancer patients. The results showed that male patients with stoma had more sexual problems, while other sexual function indicators had little difference. Stoma had no impact on sexual function in other questionnaires and problems.
