Summary: Gemini surfactants with different hydrophobic tails and spacer groups were designed and synthesized in this study. The structures were verified by 1H NMR spectrum and mass spectrometry. The research discussed the modulation of micellar thermodynamics and surface activity by the molecular structure, and demonstrated the cost-effective evaluation of surface activity using the molecular polarity index (MPI).

Summary: The structure and composition of mixed micelles formed between SDS and Pluronic have been investigated, revealing differences from previous reports. The micelles contain both polymer and water, predominantly formed by alkyl chains. The effects of surfactant concentration and polymer hydrophobicity on the micelle structure and composition have been discussed.

Summary: Four novel nonionic 1-alkylaminoglycerol Gemini surfactants were synthesized and characterized. These Gemini surfactants exhibited low CMC, excellent surface-tension-reducing ability, and wetting ability on hydrophobic interface. They formed stable nanoscale dispersion in aqueous solutions and showed strong foaming and emulsifying abilities. Additionally, one of the Gemini surfactants displayed excellent tolerance to wide pH range and high salinity. These surfactants also demonstrated significant antibacterial activities and have potential applications in various fields.

Summary: The challenge of improving the solubility of hydrophobic organic compounds can be addressed using micellar solutions of surfactants. Research has shown that a blend of different surfactants can synergistically enhance the dye partitioning, leading to improved stability and solubility of the dye in water. The processes of surfactant micellization, counterion binding, and dye partitioning have been found to be spontaneous.

Summary: The aim of this study was to selectively separate precious metals such as gold and palladium from a binary solution using the Gemini micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (GMEUF) process. The results showed that the improved GMEUF process achieved good selectivity in the separation of gold and palladium.

Summary: The limited water solubility of ionic surfactants at lower temperatures can be overcome by incorporating them into mixed micelles with another surfactant that is soluble at lower temperatures. By utilizing molecular thermodynamics equations, phase diagrams were established for binary surfactant mixtures, validating the general theoretical model.

Summary: In this study, a novel and green Gemini surfactant, SNE(10)SID, was synthesized for the remediation of dense non-aqueous phase liquid-contaminated groundwater. The surfactant exhibited excellent activity under low temperature and high salt conditions, and showed a low adsorption loss. It also demonstrated a significantly higher PCE desorption ability compared to other monomeric surfactants. The total PCE removal rate reached 87.5% after 10 pore volumes of flushing.

Summary: Compounding technology is used to reduce the surfactant dosage, especially for Gemini surfactants with complex production processes and high costs. A novel Gemini sulfonate surfactant, sodium ethylene bisulfosuccinate isooctyl polyoxypropylene polyoxyethylene ether diester (GS-iOPE), was synthesized and characterized. The surface properties of GS-iOPE were measured, and it was found that there was synergism in system I and II. Additionally, the wetting ability and emulsifying ability of the mixed systems were also studied.

Summary: This study focuses on the interaction between cationic dye methylene blue (MB) and anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), as well as its mixed micelles with nonionic surfactant Triton X-114 (TX-114). The results show that the mixed micellar system is more effective in removing and solubilizing MB from aqueous systems. However, an increase in the concentration of the nonionic surfactant weakens the dye-surfactant interaction in the ionic-nonionic mixed micellar system.

Summary: The study explored the UV-responsive ability of gemini surfactants with different tail-chain and spacer chain lengths, finding that longer tail chain and shorter spacer chain enhance the UV responsiveness. The addition of trans-NaOMCA into the micellar systems led to changes in viscosity and phase separation, indicating UV-induced microstructural transitions. Furthermore, the addition of SLGlu into the mixed system resulted in diverse UV-responsive behaviors, including significant decrease and increase in viscosity and rich phase transition behaviors. Discussions were based on H-1 NMR spectra, MD simulation, and MEP analysis.

Summary: The micellization and molecular interaction behaviors of ternary mixtures consisting of two anionic surfactants and one nonionic surfactant in aqueous solution were studied. The effect of hydrophilicity on these behaviors was also discussed. The micellization parameters and thermodynamic parameters were estimated using models based on the pseudophase separation and regular solution theories. The results showed that the mixed critical micelle concentration (cmc) value is dependent on the composition and the hydrophilicity of the nonionic surfactant. The thermodynamic data indicated that the contribution of entropy or enthalpy played a vital role in the micellization process, depending on the amount of nonionic surfactant and its hydrophilicity.

Summary: The development and optimization of systems consisting of polymers and surfactants are closely related to interactions between them. Interpolymer complexes between xanthan gum and Carbopol 940 were investigated, showing that both polymers participated in the association process with anionic surfactant sodium dodecylsulfate or nonionic surfactant Tween 80 through hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions.
