Summary: In patients with FSHD, reduced physical performance is associated with lower blood levels of vitamin C, zinc, selenium, and increased oxidative stress markers. Supplementation of vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, and selenium improves physical performance. Calorie intake is lower in women with FSHD than in men.

Summary: Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees, many of whom are at high risk of malnutrition due to poor socioeconomic status. A study on adolescent Afghan refugees in a refugee camp in Peshawar, Pakistan found high prevalence of nutritional deficiencies and micronutrient deficiencies. Urgent action is needed to include adolescents in regular screening and intervention programs to address their double burden of malnutrition.

Summary: The study found that even among homogeneously healthy individuals, different diets led to measurable differences in dietary intake and health biomarkers. Plant-based diets, especially the vegan diet, showed the most favorable patterns of lipid metabolism and glycemic control, but had the lowest food intake of vitamin B12.

Summary: This study compares the effects of self-paced high-intensity interval training (Sp-HIIT) and self-paced moderate-intensity continuous training (Sp-MICT) on aerobic fitness levels, psychophysiological responses, and antioxidant status. The results show that Sp-HIIT is more effective than Sp-MICT in improving aerobic fitness levels and antioxidant markers.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of iron supplementation on spermatogenesis and testicular functions in iron-deficient rats. The results showed that iron deficiency resulted in poorer spermatogenesis and testis dysfunction, while iron supplementation reversed the impairment and improved antioxidant levels.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the impact of physical activity on the profile of cancer-associated circulating miRNAs. The results reveal that chronic physical activity can alter the baseline levels of several cancer-associated miRNAs, potentially affecting their diagnostic and prognostic potential.

Summary: Iron (Fe) deficiency and manganese (Mn) deficiency have negative effects on the growth and physiological parameters of soybean cultivars. The deficiencies affect photosynthetic efficiency, nutrient uptake, and antioxidant activity. Simultaneous Fe and Mn deficiency had a more pronounced impact compared to individual deficiencies. However, rational fertilization of Fe and Mn can improve these parameters in hydroponic conditions.

Summary: This study aimed to comprehensively assess the zinc nutritional status and prevalence of zinc deficiency among Chinese children aged 6-18 years based on nationally representative data. The results showed that the prevalence of zinc deficiency was 9.62%, and males, anemia, stunting, low income, and rural residence were identified as potential risk factors for zinc deficiency.

Summary: The study found that nutritional status is a significant predictor of out-of-hospital mortality in vascular surgery patients. Patients with non-specific malnutrition and protein-energy malnutrition had a higher risk of mortality within 90 days after discharge. This suggests that intensified dietary guidance and interventions in both the hospital and outpatient settings may benefit vascular disease patients with malnutrition.

Summary: The study revealed an increasing trend of anaemia prevalence among Malaysian adolescents, particularly more common in females. Not meeting the Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI) for total iron intake per day showed a significant association with anaemia and iron deficiency anaemia.

Summary: This report utilized surveillance data from China to show the prevalence of Vitamin A deficiency and marginal deficiency in children, with implications for strengthening monitoring of key populations and promoting consumption of Vitamin A-rich foods or supplements. Urban children and adolescents aged 12-17 had better Vitamin A nutritional status compared to those in rural areas and aged 6-11.

Summary: The study found a high prevalence of overweight and obesity, deficiency and inadequacy of vitamin D, deficiency and marginal deficiency of vitamin A among children and adolescents in Zhejiang Province. There were significant disparities in nutritional status between genders and living areas. This highlights the need for regional and sex-specific guidelines and public health policies for children and adolescent nutrition.
