Summary: Four ionic liquids were synthesized for the separation of gases CO2/N-2 and CO2/CH4 through supported ionic liquid membranes (SILMs), with [BSmim][tos] showing the highest solubility coefficient and permeability, as well as the highest selectivity values. The ILs synthesized for this work can be ranked as [BSmim][tos] > [BSmpy][tos] > [Bmim][Cl] > [Bpy][Cl], indicating their potential use for CO2 separation through SILMs.

Summary: This study presents a novel one pot synthesis method for 1,3-bis(3-(1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)propyl)-1H-imidazol-3-ium bromide (7), which serves as a crucial precursor for the synthesis of highly pure task specific ionic liquids (TSILs) and other derivatives. The effect of catalyst decoration, including the protic vs. aprotic phthalimide effect and peripheral length, was extensively investigated. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to verify the chemical structure of the ammonium-based precursor. The overall activity of homogeneous imidazolium-based catalytic systems for cyclic carbonate (CC) production was explored, achieving almost quantitative conversions with TSIL 3 at 90 degrees C and 1 bar of CO2.

Summary: In this study, a new concept of the triple role of protic ionic liquids with nucleophilic anions was proposed, demonstrating their efficiency in ring-opening reactions of donor-acceptor cyclopropanes. The ability of thiocyanate-based protic ionic liquids to serve as a regenerable solvent, a Bronsted acid for catalysis, and a source of nucleophile was exemplified through various organic transformations under mild metal-free conditions.

Summary: CO removal is an important topic, but the CO capture performance of reported absorbents is still unsatisfactory. In this study, a series of novel ionic liquids were developed for effective CO absorption and separation, showing excellent CO capture performance and reversible regeneration. The strategy of multi-copper sites provides important guidance for the design of solvents for CO selective separation and storage.

Summary: In this paper, classical Molecular Dynamics simulations were used to study the interfacial structure of two ternary mixtures based on protic and aprotic ionic liquids. The simulations revealed the evolution of density profiles and the adsorption behavior of ions at charged interfaces. The results also showed the formation of a dense layer of solvent molecules at the interface. The influence of hydrogen bonds in differentiating between protic and aprotic mixtures was highlighted.

Summary: The paper focuses on the role of carbon dioxide in controlling the Earth's temperature and the environmental problems caused by its increased concentration in the atmosphere. It discusses the use of ionic liquids for efficient CO2 capture and conversion, utilizing electrochemical, spectroscopic, and molecular dynamics techniques to understand the reduction mechanism under various conditions. The research opens up possibilities for theoretical-experimental approaches to determine the CO2 reduction mechanism and the dependency of product formation on the electrode material and solvent used.

Summary: The study found that protic ionic liquids have potential as effective cryoprotective agents, with ethylammonium acetate showing promising results and being safer than the common cryoprotectant, dimethylsulfoxide. The results of this research will inform the development of a suite of potential new ionic liquid-based cryoprotectants that could potentially allow the cryopreservation of new cell types.

Summary: The study systematically examined the Bronsted acidity of [AAE]X PILs in green solvents and found that the cationic structures had little effect on the acidity, while the anions had no effect. Four different methods were used to determine the acidic strength, including the overlapping indicator method, potential titration method, Hammett method, and DFT method. These methods were reliable for assessing the acidity of [AAE]X.

Summary: A new method for the synthesis of 4-(dimethylamino)pyridinium azide was reported, which is a stable and non-explosive source of azide ion soluble in organic solvents. In protic ionic liquid media, this reagent serves as a safer alternative to toxic and unstable hydrazoic acid. The synthetic utility of this method was demonstrated using a model reaction, showing its wide range of applications.

Summary: Using new green solvents to capture volatile organic compounds is an attractive chemical development route. This study investigated the gas absorption performance of proton and aprotic ionic liquids for typical aromatic VOCs. Experimental and computational results showed that ILs had good stability and interaction analysis revealed that π···pi and π-π interactions were the main driving forces for BTEX absorption in ILs.

Summary: The interest in determining the chemical composition of textile products has increased due to toxicological issues and environmental concerns. This study analyzed the levels of twenty trace elements in clothing items commercialized in Spain and evaluated the potential health implication of dermal exposure in early life. Aluminum, zinc, and titanium showed the highest concentrations, while chromium was found in high levels in black polyester. Dermal exposure to titanium was associated with a hazard quotient higher than the threshold value, indicating potential risks for pregnant women and newborns.

Summary: Microplastic (MP) pollution is a global problem, and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are a major pathway for MPs to enter the natural environment. This study investigated the concentration, morphology, and composition of MPs in different treatment units of a WWTP. The results showed that WWTP can effectively remove MPs, with a removal efficiency exceeding 96%. The most common morphology of MPs is fibers, followed by fragments and films. Various types of plastics were detected in different units of the WWTP. The estimated number of MPs avoided from being released into the environment through direct water discharge was 9.1 x 1012 MP/year.
