Summary: In this study, a magnetic photocatalyst alpha-Fe2O3/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was developed to enhance photocatalytic efficiency under a magnetic field. The introduction of rGO improved the transfer of photogenerated carriers and the interface effect between alpha-Fe2O3 and rGO enhanced magnetization intensity. The alpha-Fe2O3/rGO composite photocatalyst demonstrated excellent photocatalytic performance, especially at a mass ratio of 10:1, and the magnetic field further improved the photocatalytic reaction.

Summary: The synthesis of mesoporous alpha-Fe2O3/ZnO heterostructures with different Fe2O3 percentages through the sol-gel method allowed for effective photoreduction of Hg(II) ions. Particularly, the 3% alpha-Fe2O3/ZnO heterojunction exhibited significantly improved photocatalytic efficiency for Hg(II) photoreduction under visible light exposure, surpassing pristine ZnO NPs and commercial TiO2. The success was attributed to the synergistic effect, large surface/volume ratio, porous structure, and enhanced charge carrier separation efficiency of the heterojunction system.

Summary: The rapid spread of multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens poses a serious threat to human health, and the need for alternative therapeutic strategies is urgent. A study found that a combination of lauric acid and glycerol, called glycerol monolaurate (GML), exhibits strong antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity. When combined with polymyxin B (PMNB), GML showed a synergistic antimicrobial effect against Gram-negative strains in vitro and in vivo. These findings are important for the treatment of bacterial infections and the control of infectious disease spread.

Summary: A novel magnetic anomaly detection (MAD) method based on structured low-rank (SLR) and total variation (TV) regularization constraints is proposed in this article, which improves signal-to-noise ratio and maintains clean boundaries. Comparing with other methods, the proposed SLR-TV method achieves the highest SNR improvement and the best structural similarity improvement (SSIM) in low SNR conditions.

Summary: Polymyxins combined with synthetic cannabidiol showed synergistic antibacterial activity against both polymyxin-susceptible and polymyxin-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolates. Metabolomics study revealed that the combination therapy significantly perturbed metabolic pathways involved in bacterial cell envelope and membrane lipids. The study suggests the possibility of cannabidiol repositioning, in combination with polymyxins, for treatment of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative infections.

Summary: This study used proteomics analysis to investigate the impact and mechanism of tigecycline and aminoglycoside combination therapy on carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP). The study found that the proteomic responses to tigecycline and aminoglycosides were different in monotherapy, with tigecycline dominating the proteomic alterations in combination therapy. Adaptive responses to tigecycline were associated with the upregulation of oxidative phosphorylation and translation-related proteins, while tigecycline might perturb adaptive responses to aminoglycosides through inhibition of heat shock response.

Summary: This study investigates the domain structure in a thin-film canted antiferromagnet alpha-Fe2O3, finding that the internal destressing fields driving domain formation are influenced by substrate clamping rather than following crystal symmetry. It is also shown that the weak ferromagnetic nature of alpha-Fe2O3 leads to a qualitatively different response to magnetic fields compared to collinear antiferromagnets. These insights lay the foundation for further research on electrical and optical manipulation of the domain structure in antiferromagnetic thin films.
