Summary: This study aims to investigate occult non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), an underappreciated tumor, and found that it is an aggressive tumor with poor prognosis. Surgery is the preferred treatment. More attention should be paid to this overlooked disease due to no evidence of tumor imaging.

Summary: Blood-based biomarkers, including systemic inflammation indicators and circulating factors, are associated with poor prognosis in lung cancer patients. Elevated levels of inflammation markers were found in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients compared to small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and disease-free (DF) patients. Specific markers were identified as predictors of progression and overall survival in NSCLC patients, highlighting the potential for personalized treatment strategies.

Summary: This study identified 114 circRNAs that were differentially expressed in NSCLC tissue compared to paracancerous tissue levels, with 77 downregulated and 37 upregulated. CircRNA_001846 may serve as a promising diagnostic biomarker for NSCLC, associated with tumor differentiation, lymph node metastasis, and node metastasis stage.

Summary: This study presents a multimodal integration approach utilizing multiple omics data to predict NSCLC patient survival and identify patient subtypes. The results demonstrate that combining multiple modalities in survival prediction models outperforms using a single modality, with the combination of lncRNA and clinical data achieving the highest performance.

Summary: In this study, immune cell markers in NSCLC specimens were evaluated, with CD163 and CD206 showing prognostic value, especially in patients with squamous cell lung carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Additionally, iNOS and CHID1 were found to be expressed in tumor cells and associated with prognosis, indicating potential as therapeutic targets in NSCLC.

Summary: Telomeres are unique structures at the ends of chromosomes that stabilize chromosomal structures. Telomerase, a reverse transcriptase ribonucleoprotein complex, synthesizes telomeres. Telomerase activity is generally absent in human somatic cells, except in stem cells and germ cells. However, most human cancer cells have increased telomerase activity, allowing them to divide continuously. Developing drugs targeting telomerase has been a focus of research for inhibiting cancer growth and delaying aging.

Summary: This study investigated the expression and potential clinical utility of JADE2 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The results showed that JADE2 expression is significantly altered in NSCLC and high expression of JADE2 is associated with better overall survival. The study also identified associations between JADE2 expression and tumor mutational burden and immune cell infiltration, as well as potential new drugs targeting JADE2. Overall, JADE2 may have potential diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic implications in NSCLC.

Summary: The development of immune checkpoint inhibitors has led to a revolutionary milestone in immune-oncology, but low response rates remain a major issue. This study identified TMB, PD-L1, and MATH as independent biomarkers, and demonstrated that mutational status of six immune-related pathways could predict overall survival after ICIs treatment. The pathway-model developed in this study showed promising accuracy in predicting immunotherapy efficacy, outperforming previous predictors in sensitivity and specificity.

Summary: This study compared the characteristics and outcomes of patients with de novo and secondary metastatic EGFR(+) NSCLC, finding no significant differences in many aspects, including age, gender, smoking history, histology, etc., and similar progression-free survival and overall survival under TKI treatment. The results indicate that the molecular features and prognosis of EGFR(+) tumors treated with TKI are independent of preceding nonmetastatic disease.

Summary: This study investigated the profiling of cell-in-cell structures (CICs) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissues and found that the presence of CICs is associated with the prognosis of NSCLC patients. CICs were more frequently present in adenocarcinoma and lymphocyte-in-tumor (LiT) was more common in the upper lobe of the lung. Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed that heCICs and lymph node invasion were independent factors associated with the overall survival of NSCLC.

Summary: Liquid biopsy, particularly the examination of circulating tumor cells (CTCs), has shown promise as a noninvasive method for detecting cancer-related biomarkers and monitoring treatment response in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. High CTC count has been correlated with poor prognosis, while a decrease in CTC count during treatment may indicate increased sensitivity to therapy. Additionally, molecular characterization of CTCs can provide valuable information on tumor biology and mechanisms of resistance to targeted treatment.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of obesity and telomere status on the prognosis of patients with CRC. Results showed that obese patients had less shortening of tumor telomeres, while patients with shorter telomeres had better clinical outcomes. Patients with higher BMI values had worse prognosis, and the impact of BMI was more significant in male CRC patients.

Summary: It has been found that there is a correlation between obesity and the development of colorectal cancer, but specific biomarkers linking the degree of obesity to the clinical evolution of colorectal cancer patients have not been defined. Through a study on 147 colorectal cancer patients, it was discovered that both the relative telomere length and the activity of telomerase in adipose tissues may serve as parameters of interest in the clinical evaluation of individuals with colorectal cancer.
