Summary: This study measured the metabolic rates of native westslope cutthroat trout and non-native rainbow trout, as well as the critical thermal maximum of westslope cutthroat trout. The results will provide valuable input data for species distribution models and inform the recovery planning for westslope cutthroat trout. Global warming is a major threat to this species, as it is altering the thermal habitat of cold-water freshwater fishes.

Summary: The present research demonstrates that dietary exposure is an alternative route of geosmin uptake in Rainbow Trout fillets, leading to a significant increase in geosmin concentrations. This finding is important for further investigation of sensory quality and off-flavor mitigation strategies for farm-raised fish.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of climate warming on native trout populations in the Rocky Mountains, with a focus on the distribution of westslope cutthroat trout in the North Fork Flathead River. The findings suggest that increasing stream temperatures will lead to a higher probability of westslope cutthroat trout presence, while factors such as channel gradient and the presence of bull trout will have a decreasing effect on their distribution. Predictions based on the model show an increase in suitable habitat for westslope cutthroat trout under high emissions scenarios, with potential implications for the thermal tolerances of other co-occurring native fish species.

Summary: Disease prevention through vaccination is the most appropriate method for pathogen control in aquaculture, but oral vaccines face technical problems in aquatic animals. This study explores different molecules as oral adjuvants and finds that LPS shows strong immunostimulatory potential and could be safely used as a mucosal adjuvant in rainbow trout.

Summary: The study examined the changes in technological and organoleptic qualities of female rainbow trout flesh after spawning and found that fillet quality gradually recovered over a period of approximately 24 weeks post-spawning. By around 1400 degree C.days after spawning, the quality parameters of the flesh were mostly restored to pre-spawning levels.

Summary: This study assessed the vertical transmission of Renibacterium salmoninarum in cutthroat trout from a hatchery in Colorado, USA, and determined the transmission rate from male and female brood fish. The results showed high rates of vertical transmission among 60% of families across all infection treatments, but the average proportion of infected progeny from individual families was low, ranging from 1% to 21%.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of taxifolin on rainbow trout under heat stress and Gyrodactylus flatworm infection. The results showed that taxifolin can alleviate heat-induced responses in fish and regulate the expression of apoptosis regulators, but has no significant effect on antioxidant enzyme expression. Taxifolin treatment does not affect the parasite load of Gyrodactylus infection.

Summary: The aqueous methanolic extract of thin-skinned plum showed positive effects on the growth, immune response, and resistance to a pathogenic bacterium in rainbow trout. Specifically, it improved innate immunity, survival against Yersinia ruckeri, and decreased the feed conversion ratio level significantly.

Summary: Flavobacterium psychrophilum is the causative agent of Bacterial Cold Water Disease (BCWD)/ Rainbow Trout Fry Syndrome (RTFS) in rainbow trout. The disease causes significant mortality in trout farms and leads to economic losses in the aquaculture industry. The immature development of adaptive immunity in young life cycle stages hinders successful vaccination, resulting in the widespread use of antibiotics. Selective breeding and identification of markers associated with disease resistance may improve breeding efforts for more resilient strains.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging for measuring organ blood flow in fish, visualizing contrast enhancement in the liver of rainbow trout, and detecting the effects of drugs on blood flow. CEUS shows promise for exploring different organs, fish species, and the impact of chemical contaminants in future research.
