Summary: A Schiff base ligand (H-NMDP) was synthesized and reacted with Cu2+ to form a copper complex. The crystal structure of Cu-NMDP reveals a coordination polymer with distorted square planar geometry around copper. The copper complex showed higher activity against glioblastoma cells compared to the ligand alone, suggesting its potential application as a chemotherapy agent.

Summary: The efficient synthesis of amino acid Schiff base copper(II) complexes was achieved using a microfluidic device. Schiff bases and their complexes are highly biologically active and catalytic. A conventional beaker-based method required a reaction time of 4 hours at 40 degrees C, but in this study, a microfluidic channel enabled quasi-instantaneous synthesis at room temperature (23 degrees C). The products were characterized using UV-Vis, FT-IR, and MS spectroscopy. The efficient generation of compounds using microfluidic channels has the potential to greatly contribute to drug discovery and material development due to high reactivity.

Summary: The synthesis and characterization of a new Cu(II) complex with a bidentate Schiff base were reported. The structure of CuL2 was determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction, revealing a square planar geometry with two naphthyl substituents perpendicular to the molecular plane. Additional analysis was conducted using IR and UV-Visible spectroscopy techniques. The catalytic activity of CuL2 in the oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols was investigated, with TBHP and imidazole identified as an effective oxidant/additive combination.

Summary: The study investigates the health risks associated with toxic uranium contamination in the drinking water of Thoothukudi district. The analysis of water samples collected during pre- and post-monsoon seasons reveals a wide range of uranium concentrations. Geochemical modeling studies suggest that the uraninite mineral is under saturated conditions, leading to the distribution of the least soluble U4O9 mineral species. Statistical analysis indicates that the use of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers may contribute to the dissolution of uranium minerals, resulting in elevated uranium levels in the water samples. The calculated noncarcinogenic risk falls within acceptable limits, indicating that chemical toxicity is a greater concern than the carcinogenic risk.

Summary: The present research focuses on determining the sources and concentration of uranium in groundwater from the hard rock aquifer. Analysis of 254 groundwater samples shows uranium concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 113 ppb (pre-monsoon) and 0.5 to 120 ppb (post-monsoon). The study suggests that the low uranium concentrations in the region may be attributed to poor mineral dissolution in the subsurface. The dominant distribution of U4O9 mineral confirms the undersaturation of Uraninite during both seasons. Several samples with high uranium concentrations may be due to fertilizer usage in agricultural activities. The use of GIS technique helps identify uranium-contaminated locations and water quality parameters.

Summary: The study analyzed the quality of groundwater and uranium in the Tirunelveli district. The results show that the uranium concentration in the samples ranged from 0.5 to 65 ppb (pre-monsoon) and 0.5-52 ppb (post-monsoon), with most samples falling within the permissible limits for both radiological and chemical toxicity. Geochemical modeling suggests that the lower uranium concentration may be due to the limited dissolution of uranium with the predominant species of U4O9. The spatial distribution map highlights the regions where uranium and other water quality parameters are polluted.
