Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility of computer-aided diagnostics (CAD) in predicting the chance of malignancy of ovarian tumors. The results showed that CAD based on ultrasound, CT scans, and MRI scans has high performance and potential cost-effectiveness in assessing ovarian tumors. However, more large datasets and external validation are needed to make the results generalizable.

Summary: The increasing environmental regulations and agreements in the chemical industry have led to the need to adapt processes to more intelligent production in order to achieve sustainable operation. The environmental assessment of the suspension PVC production process using the waste reduction algorithm (WAR) revealed that the process transforms raw materials with high impacts into substances with lower potential environmental impact (PEI). However, the process still generates high PEI due to intensive energy consumption and the emission of toxic substances and greenhouse gases. The evaluation also showed that natural gas is the most suitable fuel for reducing environmental impacts.

Summary: This study developed a mathematical model for the dynamics of free thyroxine (FT4) during methimazole (MMI) treatment and validated it using patient data. They also developed a software application called DigiThy, which can be used as a practice tool for treating virtual patients or as a decision support system for MMI dosing recommendations. The efficacy of the MMI dosing recommendations from DigiThy was comparable to, or even superior to, that from clinical endocrinologists.

Summary: This paper presents a deep learning system for breast cancer screening, using mammogram images to achieve early detection of breast cancer. The proposed approach includes modified contrast enhancement, transferable texture convolutional neural network (TTCNN), and energy layer, as well as deep features and convolutional sparse image decomposition to improve classification accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms previous methods in classifying mammogram images.

Summary: This study evaluates the potential environmental impacts and exergetic efficiency of scaled-up production of citric acid-coated magnetite nanoparticles. Simulations using waste reduction algorithm and Aspen Plus software show high environmental performance attributed to the generation of environmentally friendlier substances and high contributions to toxicity potentials from ethanol in waste streams. The global exergy efficiency increases with improvements in centrifuge performance, emphasizing the importance of addressing ethanol disposal in wastewater.

Summary: The CAD system has comparable sensitivity to an experienced radiologist in diagnosing thyroid malignancies concurrent with HT, but lower specificity. For less experienced radiologists, the CAD system can help improve diagnostic performance by increasing sensitivity and accuracy in assessing thyroid nodules with diffusely altered parenchyma.

Summary: Maxillofacial defects and their rehabilitation are a major concern in society, posing challenges in material selection, retention aids, patient adaptability, and cost for prosthodontists. This case report presents the management of a midfacial defect involving multiple structures, using a removable silicone extraoral compartment and an acrylic intraoral compartment that are secured with cobalt samarium magnets, an elastic loop, and spectacles. The fabricated maxillofacial prosthesis successfully restored the patient's facial esthetics and function.

Summary: The CARLO(R) device performed linear osteotomies accurately and safely, with no complications in postoperative healing seen in the patient. However, further improvements are needed in the technical workflow, particularly in target marker positioning and depth control. More research is necessary to assess safety and accuracy, especially in osteotomy sites where direct visual control is not possible.

Summary: Primary alveolar bone grafting during one-stage cleft lip and palate repair does not positively affect growth in children aged 6-11 years. Two-flap palatoplasty has greater adverse effects on growth compared to primary alveolar bone grafting. Dental and palatal morphology are significantly compromised regardless of primary alveolar bone grafting.

Summary: This article presents a digital workflow for fabricating personalized presurgical plates in cleft treatment. The digital workflow offers some advantages over the conventional workflow but has a longer throughput time. However, once procurement costs are addressed, digital impressions and point-of-care 3D printing have the potential to become standard for cleft care.
