Summary: This study utilized an algorithm-based decision tree to switch from intravenous to oral antibiotics within 48 hours for the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) in hospitalized patients. The analysis of clinical and biochemical response data indicated that this approach was successful in reducing the duration of antibiotic treatment and hospitalization in 95% of cases.

Summary: This study found that 42.9% of patients with erysipelas had fungal infections, with toenails and interdigital spaces being the most commonly affected areas. T. rubrum was the most common pathogen identified. Preventing and treating fungal infections in elderly individuals can significantly reduce the incidence of erysipelas.

Summary: Cutaneous leishmaniasis can manifest in various clinical forms, including atypical presentations. Delayed diagnosis of these atypical forms is common. Recognizing the diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis is important to avoid unnecessary treatment and patient morbidity. Erysipeloid leishmaniasis, characterized by erysipelas-like lesions unresponsive to antibiotics, should be considered as one of these atypical forms. We report five cases of erysipeloid leishmaniasis in this study.

Summary: Treatment of lower limb cellulitis varies with no consensus on the most effective antibiotic regimen. Shorter courses of oral antibiotics may be more suitable, but there is limited data on clinical response and safety. Further high-quality studies are needed to determine if less intensive antibiotic regimens can effectively treat lower limb cellulitis.

Summary: Obesity can lead to dysfunction of the antimicrobial function of reactive dermal adipogenesis, which increases susceptibility to skin infections. Therapeutic targets such as TGF beta receptor inhibitors and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma agonists can help manage skin infections associated with obesity.

Summary: Skin reaction is a common toxicity during oncology management, especially in radiotherapy. The prevalence of erythema and fibrosis varied over time, with erythema decreasing to 2% at 60 months and fibrosis remaining stable at around 19%. Factors such as obesity, surgery type, and tumor phenotype were associated with the onset of skin toxicities.

Summary: This review examines the causes of recurrent cellulitis, including modifiable and nonmodifiable factors, and emphasizes the importance of treatment. It also suggests targeting the risk factors and using Penicillin V for prevention. Furthermore, it calls for increased efforts in research and treatment of this issue.

Summary: Detection of latent M. tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is crucial before starting biotherapy for psoriasis patients, with tuberculin skin tests (TST) and/or blood interferon-gamma-release assays (IGRA) usually performed for diagnosis. Heparin-binding haemagglutinin (HBHA)-IGRA may offer higher sensitivity in identifying LTBI compared to the conventional QFT test. Different immune responses to M. tuberculosis antigens in psoriatic patients may indicate varying risk levels of reactivation of the infection, helping prioritize those in need of prophylactic anti-TB treatment.

Summary: This case report describes a rare occurrence of recurrent skin and soft tissue infections caused by U. urealyticum in an immunocompromised adult patient. The diagnosis and treatment of this case were limited by traditional culture methods, suggesting the use of metagenomic next-generation sequencing to identify atypical pathogens and improve antimicrobial treatment of complicated infections.

Summary: The use of medical imaging is increasing, but patients are also being exposed to higher doses of radiation, particularly for those undergoing recurrent imaging. The cumulative doses received by patients across all imaging modalities are unknown, highlighting the need for the development of safer imaging technologies.
