Summary: In this study, silver nanoclusters were utilized as a nanosensor for fluorescence determination of curcumin. The fluorescence quenching mechanism between silver nanoclusters and curcumin was investigated, showing a linear relationship between fluorescence intensity and curcumin concentration. This novel platform could potentially expand the possibilities for a new fluorescence detection method.

Summary: A greater understanding of the interaction between DNA and nanomaterials can provide alternative strategies for designing DNA nanomachines. This study found that the fluorescence of AgNCs encapsulated within DNA can be controlled by pH changes. AgNCs can also act as nanoscale rivets, linking different DNA nanostructures.

Summary: This study investigates the use of DNA-stabilized fluorescent silver nanoclusters for the detection of pyrimidine-rich DNA sequences through the formation of parallel and antiparallel triplex structures, using molecular fluorescence spectroscopy. The effectiveness of the formation of triplex structures was evaluated using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, circular dichroism, molecular fluorescence spectroscopy, and multivariate data analysis. The results indicate that the detection of pyrimidine-rich sequences with acceptable selectivity is possible using the approach based on the formation of antiparallel triplex structures.

Summary: A label-free fluorescent detection method for glyphosate based on DNA-Ag NCs and a Cu2+-ion-modulated strategy was developed, achieving ultrasensitive detection of glyphosate. The method showed a linear response in the range of 1.0-50 ng/mL with a LOD of 0.2 ng/mL, demonstrating high application potential for glyphosate detection.

Summary: Research has shown that circulating miRNAs can be used as novel diagnostic and prognostic markers for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). In this study, a fluorescent probe was developed for simultaneous detection of two serum biomarkers (miR-23a and miR-223) associated with ulcerative colitis (UC) activity. The method showed high selectivity and has the potential for clinical application.

Summary: In this study, a new design of Forster resonance energy transfer-based dual-color photoswitchable fluorescent nanoparticles (DPF NPs) was reported by using ligand-protected gold nanoclusters (AuNCs). The ultrasmall-sized AuNCs act as the FRET donors and also regulate the properties of spiropyran through ligand-spiropyran interactions. These DPF NPs exhibit high fluorescence on/off ratios for both green and red fluorescence emission, and show good reversibility during cycled photo-stimulation. Cell imaging experiments demonstrated that DPF NPs can specifically accumulate in lipid droplets and enable photoswitchable dual-color imaging in living cells.

Summary: Ligand exchange reaction is a versatile post-synthesis modification method that plays an important role in thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters by adjusting the gold-sulfur interface. This process follows a SN2-like mechanism, supported by both experiments and calculations. Ligand exchange reaction can impart different functionalities and properties to gold nanoclusters.

Summary: The first series of monocarboxylate-protected superatomic silver nanoclusters were synthesized and characterized. These clusters exhibited an unprecedented structure with a [Ag-8@Ag-8](6+) metal core and showed high photothermal conversion performance. The use of monocarboxylates in stabilizing Ag nanoclusters opens up possibilities for introducing various functional groups on their cluster surfaces.

Summary: GSH-AgNCs and DHLA-AgNCs were synthesized and their interactions with ctDNA were studied. GSH-AgNCs mainly bound to ctDNA in a groove mode, while DHLA-AgNCs were both groove and intercalation binding. The binding strength of DHLA-AgNCs to ctDNA was stronger than that of GSH-AgNCs. This study provides theoretical foundations and guidance for the biosafety and application of AgNCs.

Summary: This study uncovers the role of the amidinate ligand in yielding two closely related copper hydride clusters with different catalytic hydrogenation activities. The researchers synthetized stable copper hydride clusters using ligand engineering strategy and observed reversible interconversion between the clusters triggered by solvent. Deuteration experiments demonstrated that the type of hydride in the clusters dictates the catalytic activity.

Summary: A new strategy using silver nanoparticles to synthesize thiolated gold nanoclusters is demonstrated, resulting in glutathione-Au NCs and DTT-Au NCs with similar emission wavelengths and quantum yields. The charge properties of the thiolated Au NCs were determined by the capping ligands, with glutathione-Au NCs showing higher accessibility to an aqueous environment compared to DTT-Au NCs.
