Summary: This study investigated parameters affecting the electrospinning of PVA/kefiran composite nanofibers. The optimal condition for nanofiber fabrication was found to be 18 kV, 200 mm, and 1 mL/h, producing uniform nanofibers without knots or adhesion. Concentration was identified as the most effective parameter influencing the diameter of nanofibers, and phase separation did not occur between the two polymers according to TEM images.

Summary: Novel poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(vinyl butyral-vinyl alcohol) films with improved hydrophobicity were prepared by saponification of poly(vinyl acetate)/poly(vinyl butyral) blend films. The saponification process was confirmed by various analysis techniques. The hydrophobicity of the films increased with increasing poly(vinyl butyral) content. The saponified films exhibited improved mechanical properties and unique surface characteristics. These films have potential applications in biomaterials, filters, and medical devices.

Summary: Polymeric PVA-based composite hydrogels were fabricated with gellan gum (GG) and their rheological and tribological properties were investigated. Increasing the concentration of GG enhanced the storage modulus of the hydrogels, making them suitable for cartilage regeneration applications. Furthermore, the addition of GG reduced the friction coefficient, increasing the chance of survival under mechanical shear stresses.

Summary: A composite hydrogel (GelNB@SIS) was designed for the repair of skin injuries. GelNB provides photo-triggering tissue adhesive property, while SIS has a 3D microporous structure and contains high levels of growth factors and collagen. This study demonstrated that GelNB@SIS can improve the healing process by promoting vascular renewal, dermal remodeling, and epidermal regeneration, making it a promising candidate for tissue repair applications.

Summary: Tannic acid and interleukin-10 are added to small intestinal submucosa (SIS) hydrogel to create a composite hydrogel with enhanced immunomodulatory activity. The composite hydrogel shows improved properties such as swelling, anti-degradation, free radical scavenging, and sustained interleukin-10 release. It also promotes M2c macrophage polarization, collagen synthesis, angiogenesis, and extracellular matrix remodeling, thus expanding the clinical applications of SIS hydrogel.

Summary: Poly(vinyl alcohol) nanofibrous mats containing ad hoc synthesized gold nanostructures were prepared via a single-step electrospinning procedure and investigated for their potential applications. Various shapes and sizes of gold nanostructures were studied for their effects on the physical and chemical properties of the resulting mats. The type of nanostructure was found to influence the mesh morphology of the mats, with different shapes leading to thinner well defined or bigger defect-rich nanofibers.

Summary: In this study, a facile spray coating approach was proposed to engineer composite membranes composed of sulfonated polystyrene microspheres and poly(ethylene vinyl alcohol) nanofibers. The sulfonic acid groups in the membranes provided strong interaction with lysozyme, resulting in high lysozyme adsorption capacity. The inclusion of sulfonated polystyrene spheres in the nanofibrous membranes was confirmed by FTIR and XPS analysis. The EVOH/SPS composite membranes exhibited high water permeability and lysozyme adsorption capacity, making them suitable for application in chromatography columns with excellent water flux and adsorption performance.
