New complexes of dioxovanadium(V), zinc(II), ruthenium(II), palladium(II), and platinum(II) with 6-methylpyridine-2-carbaldehyde-N(4)-ethylthiosemicarbazone (HmpETSC) have been synthesized. The composition of these complexes is discussed on the basis of elemental analyses, IR, Raman, NMR (H-1, C-13, and P-31), and electronic spectral data. The X-ray crystal structures of [VO2(mpETSC)] and [Pt(mpETSC)Cl] are also reported. The HmpETSC and its [Zn(HmpETSC)Cl-2] and [Pd(mpETSC)Cl] complexes exhibit antineoplastic activity against colon cancer human cell lines (HCT 116).

Summary: A new AG-CMC-Agnp nanocomposite was synthesized for efficient removal of crude and waste diesel oil from water. The composite showed high adsorption capacity and excellent recyclability. Kinetic and isotherm studies revealed that diesel oil diffusion into the composite followed a pseudo-first order model and best fit with the Langmuir model, respectively.

Adsorption and interaction studies of methylene blue dye onto agar-carboxymethylcellulose-silver nanocomposite in aqueous media

Sahar Mostafa, Mohamed A. Ali, Noha A. El-Wassefy, Eman M. Saad, Mervat H. Hussein

Summary: In this study, Agar-carboxymethylcellulose-silver nanoparticle (AG-CMC-AgNP) nanocomposite was successfully fabricated and characterized. The adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye onto AG-CMC-AgNP was investigated, and the results showed that AG-CMC-AgNP had a high adsorption capacity and good adsorption performance for MB. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order reaction kinetic model. The biosorbent was found to be reusable, although the adsorption capacity slightly decreased after multiple cycles.

Sahar Ibrahim Mostafa, Marwa S. S. Ismail, Hagag A. A. Mohammed, Manal F. F. Osman, Noha A. A. Elwassefy

Summary: Prepared and characterized a new nanocomposite, mag-HA-Ald np, for bone tissue scaffold formation. Iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4 np) were added to aqueous solutions of Ca(NO3)(2)& BULL;4H(2)O and (NH4)(2)HPO4 to obtain mag-HA np. The structure of the nanocomposites was investigated using spectral and microscopy techniques, while the cytotoxicity was evaluated using MTT assay. The results confirmed the successful synthesis of mag-HA-Ald np and revealed a positive correlation between Ald and iron oxide content with cell viability. Additionally, magnetic field application significantly decreased cell viability.

Sahar Ibrahim Mostafa, Nesma M. Abdelfattah, Sayed M. Ghorab, Manal F. Osman, Noha A. Elwassefy

Summary: This study reports the preparation and characterization of new biocompatible injectable bone paste (IBP) nanocomposites, including hydroxyapatite-gelatin (HA-Gel) and hydroxyapatite-gelatin-alendronate (HA-Gel-Ald np). The IBP nanocomposites HA-Gel np were synthesized from mixing gelatin with aqueous solutions of Ca(NO3)(2).4H(2)O and (NH4)(2)HPO4. The target nanocomposites HA-Gel-Ald np were obtained by reacting alendronate (Ald) aqueous solution with HA-Gel np nanocomposites. The physico-chemical measurements confirmed the successful isolation of HA-Gel np and HA-Gel-Ald np nanocomposites with different ratios, and the cytotoxicity of the nanocomposites on stem cells was assessed.
