Summary: The study reports on the synthesis and temperature-responsive properties of poly(PEGMA) hydrogel thin films. Surface-attached poly(PEGMA) hydrogel films were synthesized using a simple, versatile, and well-controlled thiol-ene click reaction method, with the transition temperature finely tunable by adjusting the number of PEG units. The LCST properties of the hydrogel films are not sensitive to salt, holding promise for applications in biology such as injectable hydrogels, drug delivery systems, microfluidic valves, and flow switches for biotechnologies.

Summary: The formation of functional capillary blood vessels in engineered tissues remains a challenge. In this study, researchers investigated the effects of matrix properties on vessel network formation using PEG hydrogels. By varying the crosslinking ratio and incorporating cleavage sites, they found that reducing crosslinking or increasing degradability promoted vascularization and cell-mediated stiffening. These findings highlight the importance of cell-mediated remodeling for rapid vessel formation.

Summary: Novel bimetallic phosphates of Mn&Ni were studied for low-cost ethylene glycol (EG) electrooxidation. The morphology, crystallinity, and chemistry of MnNiPh-Re and MnNiPh-SG were investigated, and the preparation method was found to significantly affect the observed morphology. The electrocatalytic performance of MnNiPh-Re and MnNiPh-SG as working electrodes for EG oxidation was evaluated, and MnNiPh-SG exhibited better EG oxidation compared to MnNiPh-Re at different EG contents.

Summary: This study provides the first evidence of the interaction between PEG and HA in aqueous solutions. The binding of PEG to HA requires multiple free primary hydroxyls regularly distributed along the polysaccharide chain. Additionally, PEG-induced compaction of HA may be related to changes in plasma membrane properties and resealing of mechanical injuries.

Summary: The performance of direct alcohol fuel cells is greatly affected by the phase and composition of the catalyst, necessitating the development of high-performance alcohol oxidation catalysts. In this study, PdCu core-shell nanoflowers were created for the first time using PVA preparation, resulting in a high electrochemically active surface area and a potent synergistic effect. The Cu@Pd22.3 catalyst exhibited 13 times higher catalytic performance than Pd/C in ethylene glycol oxidation reaction, offering an original method to improve the activity and endurance of polyol oxidation.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of ionic correlations on CO2 electrochemical reduction. The findings show that increasing ion concentration leads to an acceleration of CO2 reduction rates and an enhancement of the efficiency to produce CO. Importantly, the acceleration of CO2 reduction is due to the amplification of potential-dependent driving forces. This phenomenon is observed across different types of ions.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the influence of ionic correlations on the reaction rates and selectivity of CO2 electroreduction. Through experiments, we find that at intermediate concentrations, the reduction rates of CO2 are accelerated and the efficiency of CO production is enhanced. The acceleration of CO2 reduction is due to the amplification of potential-dependent driving forces, rather than changes in onset potential. These findings are applicable to both cocatalytic and noncatalytic ions.

Summary: In this study, N-methyl mesoporphyrin IX (NMM) was utilized as a voltammetric probe for the electrochemical detection of G4s. The detection of NMM was achieved by cyclic voltammetry on a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) with a limit of detection (LOD) of 40 nM. The reduction signal of NMM was found to be significantly higher when G4 oligodeoxynucleotides (G4 ODNs) were present compared to single- or double-stranded ODNs or unfolded ODNs capable of forming G4s. Gradual transition from unstructured single strand to G4, induced by increasing concentrations of the G4 stabilizing K+ ions, was detected for the first time using electrochemical methods. Circular dichroism spectroscopy provided support for the obtained results. This work expands on the utilization of electrochemical probes for DNA secondary structure recognition and offers a proof of principle for the development of novel electroanalytical methods for nucleic acid structure studies.
