Summary: Interventions such as diet, physical activity, smoking cessation, and alcohol behavior changes during pregnancy aim to prevent adverse pregnancy outcomes. Evidence suggests that these interventions can significantly reduce gestational weight gain, postnatal weight retention, and reduce the risk of certain complications, but do not have a significant impact on indicators such as newborn birth weight. Prioritizing research in these areas could improve the lifelong well-being of women and their children.

Summary: The study found that both consistently high levels of leisure-time physical activity and an increasing tendency to engage in physical activity after childhood/adolescence were associated with healthier diet and lower smoking frequency in both genders, with women having fewer sleep difficulties and increasingly active men having lower screen time. Inactivity and low activity were associated with the accumulation of several unhealthy behaviors in adulthood, with stronger associations observed in women.

Summary: Pregnant women must maintain healthy habits to protect their own health and their child's. This study found that younger and less educated pregnant women had poorer eating habits and higher smoking rates. Lower educated pregnant women were also less active. Non-smoking pregnant women had better eating habits than smokers. Lower educated pregnant women accumulated more unhealthy habits during pregnancy.

Summary: The health of older people is greatly influenced by their lifestyle, and efforts should be made to slow down the deterioration process. This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality and other non-food lifestyle elements among Polish elder citizens. The results identified three homogeneous clusters based on lifestyle components, and found that nutritional knowledge and health status were important factors associated with adherence to a pro-healthy lifestyle.

Summary: Sleep quality, diet quality, and physical activity are significant factors influencing physical and mental health in Chinese elderly population. The relationships among these factors are closely related, with diet quality and physical activity mediating the effects of sleep quality on physical and mental health. By targeting sleep quality, diet quality, and physical activity, interventions can be made to improve the overall health of older adults.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the association between leisure-time physical activity (PA) and gastric cancer (GC) through a pooled analysis of case-control studies. The results showed no significant relationship between leisure-time PA and GC, except for a slight decreased risk below age 55 and in control population-based studies.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the association between lifestyle factors and suicide-related outcomes. Data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2015 and 2017 were analyzed, and lifestyle factors including smoking, physical activity, alcohol intake, and the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) were identified. The results showed that smoking and heavy drinking were associated with an increased risk of suicide-related outcomes, while high-quality diets and non-heavy drinking were associated with a decreased risk. The associations between lifestyle factors and suicide-related outcomes were stronger in people with depression.

Summary: This study examines the association between different types of physical activity and substance use among Canadian youth, finding that sports participation is consistently associated with substance use. Non-competitive school sport can reduce the odds of cannabis use, while competitive school sport can decrease cigarette smoking but increase e-cigarette use and binge drinking. Outside of school sport can reduce cigarette smoking and cannabis use but increase e-cigarette use and binge drinking. Caution should be exercised in claiming a negative association between sports participation or physical activity in general and substance use among youth.

Summary: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a highly heterogeneous autoimmune disease that primarily affects women. This review explores the mechanisms of SLE pathogenesis, focusing on the impact of lifestyle factors. Studies have found associations between diet, cigarette smoking, ultraviolet radiation exposure, alcohol and caffeine-rich beverage consumption, and SLE susceptibility. The review summarizes these relationships and outlines directions for future research.

Summary: This review examines the validity of using smartphones to measure dietary behaviors, alcohol use, and tobacco use. The results suggest that smartphones can be a reliable tool for measuring diet and alcohol use, but the validity for measuring tobacco use is limited. More high-quality studies are needed to further validate the use of smartphones in measuring health behaviors.

Summary: This study analyzed the content of data availability statements (DAS) and the actual sharing of raw data in preprint articles about COVID-19. The findings revealed that not all the raw data mentioned in the preprints with data sharing statements were accessible. Therefore, it is important to educate researchers about the significance of data sharing and to require preprint servers to include data sharing statements on both the website and in the manuscript.

Summary: This study examines the anticipatory grief of informal caregivers providing at-home palliative care for their ill spouse. The caregivers bravely face the challenges of living with an illness by maintaining optimism, strong cohesion with their partner, and a sense of joint destiny. They tend to repress their personal needs and feelings while taking on the burden of care. Caregivers tend to stay positive and focus on living in the present by actively caring for their ill spouse and family.
