Different analytical and numerical methods for calculating the surface impedance of a high impedance surface (HIS) structure have been studied and compared. In this article, two new approaches are proposed for calculating the surface impedance for general 2D-spatial periodic HIS structures, which include both the symmetric and asymmetric planar structures. Different comparisons are made, among analytical, numerical and experimental results, to validate our numerical calculation.
