Summary: The aim of this study is to evaluate the potential of a novel custom-designed rigid gas permeable contact lens for controlling high myopia. The results suggest that multifocal rigid gas-permeable lenses have no significant impact on controlling high myopia progression compared with single-vision spectacles.

Summary: Reproduction is one of the defining features of life and plays a crucial role in evolution. Different organisms have different ways of reproducing, and factors such as mutation rates and species diversity can affect the optimal reproductive strategies for multi-species groups. By studying the dynamics of cell groups and the accumulation of cheaters, researchers have found that strategies like migration and group-size dependent fissioning rates can help multi-species groups maintain cooperative interactions and thrive in the face of deleterious mutations.

Summary: Standardized laboratory tests with a limited number of model species play a crucial role in chemical risk assessments. A multispecies toxicokinetic model based on data from 69 freshwater fish species in Canada was developed to predict bioconcentration, showing promising results with some tendency of overestimating measured values. This bottom-up approach potentially provides more accurate predictions for chemical risk assessments.

Summary: Vision correction using corneal rigid gas-permeable contact lenses is the basic and effective method for managing keratoconus. The success rates of different fitting strategies vary depending on the type and severity of keratoconus. Classifying patients into different types according to corneal shape and selecting appropriate prescription techniques is crucial. The piggyback lens system is a good alternative if corneal GPs cannot be used due to mechanical irritation. Instructing patients on proper lens care is important for preventing complications and maintaining visual function.

Summary: This study investigated the synthesis and properties of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-delta (LSCF) hollow fiber perovskite membranes with wrinkled surface, demonstrating their applicability for oxygen separation. The results showed that the wrinkled membranes had higher oxygen permeation flux after Ag deposition as the catalyst.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of long-term use of RGP contact lenses on corneal endothelium in KC patients, and to analyze the correlation between wearing duration of RGP lenses and endothelial morphometric changes. The results showed significant corneal thinning in KC eyes wearing RGP lenses compared to non-wearer KC eyes.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the factors affecting long-term compliance with rigid gas-permeable contact lens wear in patients with keratoconus (KC). The results showed that subjective experiences, such as visual acuity, overall satisfaction, and quality of life, significantly influence long-term compliance with RGPCL wear, while ocular biometrics do not have a significant effect.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of RGP-CL wear on contrast visual acuity in patients after penetrating keratoplasty. It was found that RGP-CLs can improve low contrast visual acuity and visual performance, which may be attributed to the reduction of corneal aberrations, particularly spherical and astigmatism aberrations.

Summary: Comparative studies on eDNA metabarcoding and backpack electrofishing for fish surveys in freshwater streams found that eDNA metabarcoding is generally more sensitive than electrofishing. Combining different markers can increase detection probabilities, while increasing the threshold for filtering low-abundance reads decreases species detection probabilities. However, overall, eDNA metabarcoding remains more sensitive than electrofishing.

Summary: Data assimilation, the process of incorporating observations into numerical models, is crucial in computational science but can be computationally expensive and challenging to incorporate constraints. A new approach using Kullback-Leibler divergence has been introduced, offering improved computational efficiency and the ability to naturally embed constraints.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of various saline solutions as alternatives to tap water for rinsing RGP lenses. The fluid pressure of five commercially available saline solutions was measured, and the lenses were cleaned with one of two cleaners and then rinsed with saline solutions or tap water. The results showed that fluid pressure was correlated with lens surface opacity, indicating that some products left less residue. Tap water, with its high fluid pressure, was found to be the most effective option for removing RGP cleaners from the lens surface. However, caution is advised due to the potential risks of corneal inflammation and infection.

Summary: This article presents a novel Multiple Evaporation Desalination (MED) system that uses water product to generate cooling through sudden expansion and condensation of cold vapor caused by an ejector. The system was simulated using Aspen Plus and proved to be technically feasible under different operating conditions. The proposed system has a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 4.7, generating large amounts of cooling and significantly increasing the feasibility of MED technologies.

Summary: In this study, a deep learning model was developed to predict the base curve of rigid gas permeable contact lenses for keratoconus patients. The model demonstrated higher precision compared to the manufacturer's recommendation and has the potential to reduce time spent by ophthalmologists and patients in complex fitting cases.

Summary: The study developed La2O3 nanoparticles using ultrasonic wave grinding technology and constructed an Au/La2O3-NPs/ZnO/MEMS SO2 gas sensor. Experimental results showed that the ZnO thin film acts as a path for electron transport, and the sensor exhibits a stronger sensitivity to SO2 gas.

Summary: Belantamab mafodotin is a new drug for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, but it can cause ocular toxicity. We present a clinical case where the use of corneal contact lenses improved vision and allowed continued therapy. This strategy provides an additional option for managing ocular toxicity of belantamab.
