Summary: This study analyzed the role of peritoneal disease in patients with gastric cancer and the prognostic relevance of response to neoadjuvant therapy. Results showed that conversion of CY+ to CY- after neoadjuvant chemotherapy with FLOT significantly improved overall survival, suggesting that surgical treatment should be considered in well-selected patients. However, peritoneal recurrence remains frequent despite the conversion.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the incidence of positive peritoneal cytology in patients undergoing pancreatectomy for pancreatic adenocarcinoma and identified potential predictors. The findings suggest that elevated Ca19-9 levels at diagnosis, locally advanced disease, and higher BMI may be associated with positive peritoneal cytology.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prognostic impacts of adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) and its duration on the survival outcome in pancreatic cancer patients with positive peritoneal lavage cytology (CY +). The results showed that long-term AC (> 6 months) may improve postoperative survival in CY + pancreatic cancer patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the prognostic value of the One-Step Nucleic Acid Amplification (OSNA) assay in advanced gastric cancer patients. The results showed that a positive OSNA assay result was a significant unfavorable prognostic factor in these patients. The OSNA assay of peritoneal washings could be considered as an adjunct tool to provide precise intraoperative staging and additional prognostic information.

Summary: The clinical significance of tumor-derived DNA testing in peritoneal lavage of pancreatic cancer patients was assessed. Results showed that patients with peritoneal dissemination and positive cytology had higher prevalence and abundance of tumor-derived DNA in the peritoneal lavage samples, which could predict early recurrence.

Summary: This study investigated the preoperative risk factors for positive peritoneal lavage cytology (CY) in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) undergoing surgical resection. The results showed that body and tail PDAC were identified as independent risk factors for CY positivity in patients who did not receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), while no useful predictive factor was found in patients treated with NAC. Therefore, determining the optimal indications for staging laparoscopy (SL) in NAC cases was challenging.

Summary: Positive peritoneal and lavage cytology are associated with worse cancer-specific survival in colorectal cancer. The prognostic impact was comparable between positive lavage and peritoneal cytology. Therefore, cytology should be considered a standard assessment modality for colorectal cancer.

Summary: The study found that total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) can ensure the delivery of intended systemic therapy before a complicated operation without decreasing the chance of successful surgery. Patients who can tolerate shorter course neoadjuvant therapy (SNT) may also benefit from total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT).

Summary: The study investigated the outcomes of CRS/HIPEC in treating synchronous peritoneal metastasis in gastric cancer and found that complete cytoreduction and low PCI scores were associated with significantly better long-term survival. In referral centers, CRS and HIPEC after neoadjuvant treatment significantly improved survival in selected patients.

Summary: This study aimed to clarify the usefulness of tumor markers from peritoneal lavage in selecting patients with a high risk of recurrence and predicting site-specific recurrence in patients with pancreatic cancer. The results showed that elevated pCA 19-9 levels were independent prognostic markers for disease-free survival and overall survival. The combination of pCA 19-9 and sCA19-9 also served as a predictor of site-specific recurrence.

Summary: Airway involvement, including airway invasion, compression, and tracheobronchoesophageal fistula (TEF), in esophageal cancer is common and associated with increased morbidity and poorer survival. Risk factors for airway involvement include midesophageal tumors, upper esophageal tumors, previous treatment with esophageal stenting, and chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Treatment with chemotherapy and combined airway and esophageal stenting is associated with improved survival in patients with TEF.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of laparoscopic fundoplication in patients with chronic cough without asthma and pathologic gastro-oesophageal reflux. It found that 61% of the patients experienced relief in cough after the surgery, while predictors of cough response to fundoplication were not accurately predicted by typical GORD symptoms or pH study variables.
