Summary: Surgical management of duodenal GIST depends on tumor size and origin, with local resection being a preferred choice. PD group had larger tumors, higher mitotic count, longer operative time, hospital stay, and postoperative complications rate; patients with tumor > 5 cm and high-risk potential may have an increased risk of disease recurrence.

Summary: This study analyzed the risk factors and clinical outcomes of hemorrhagic duodenal GISTs, revealing a higher incidence of bleeding compared to gastric GISTs. Age, tumor size, and mitotic count were identified as risk factors for overall survival. Duodenal GISTs have a higher rate of tumor bleeding and re-bleeding after endoscopic hemostasis than gastric GISTs.

Summary: DGIST is a rare tumor with specific characteristics, low lymph node metastasis incidence, and surgery as the main treatment method. Factors influencing surgery selection for DGISTs include tumor size, location, and risk grade. The five-year overall survival rate of patients is over 90%, with Whipple surgery suitable for tumors in the descending part of the duodenum, size >= 5.0 cm, or medium to high risk grades.

Summary: The study evaluated the long-term survival outcomes of patients with duodenal GIST who underwent radical resection (RR) or limited resection (LR). Results showed that surgical modalities did not have a significant impact on long-term survival outcomes, which should mainly depend on tumor size and location.

Summary: D-GISTs are uncommon mesenchymal tumors that require surgical management with a focus on achieving adequate resection margins. Various surgical options are available depending on the location, size, and involvement of surrounding structures. Minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic and robotic-assisted approaches, are increasingly being used with good oncological outcomes.

Summary: The study revealed the relationship between immune infiltration and cancer stem-like properties in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), with a correlation to tumor purity. The cancer stemness index can serve as a predictive biomarker for tumor metastasis and a target for drug therapy in GIST patients.

Summary: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is usually caused by sporadic mutations in the KIT or PDGFRA genes, but can also be caused by germline mutations. Surgical resection is critical for patients with germline GIST, especially in the stomach, since most tumors do not respond to tyrosine kinase inhibitors. However, there are no formal guidelines for timing or extent of surgical resection. This article discusses the challenges and principles of surgery in patients with germline GIST, with a case study of a patient harboring a germline KIT 579 deletion.

Summary: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are potentially malignant tumors that require evidence-based surgical and/or medical treatment. Laparoscopy has similar safety and prognostic outcomes to laparotomy for localized GISTs. Endoscopy and biopsy are essential for the preoperative diagnosis of GISTs.

Summary: Airway involvement, including airway invasion, compression, and tracheobronchoesophageal fistula (TEF), in esophageal cancer is common and associated with increased morbidity and poorer survival. Risk factors for airway involvement include midesophageal tumors, upper esophageal tumors, previous treatment with esophageal stenting, and chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Treatment with chemotherapy and combined airway and esophageal stenting is associated with improved survival in patients with TEF.
