Summary: The pulmonary circulation after one and one-half ventricle repair is complex due to the connection of two sources of blood flow, and the presence of pulmonary regurgitation complicates it further. This case study highlights the importance of analyzing flow patterns throughout the cardiac cycle instead of relying solely on net flow volumes.

Summary: The effect of ventricular dominance and previous AVV surgery on patient outcomes after Fontan operation was investigated. The study found that the degree of common AVV regurgitation was similar in patients with LV and RV dominance. However, RV dominance was identified as a risk factor for death or transplantation, rather than previous AVV surgery.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of aspirin, warfarin, and nonvitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in patients with a Fontan circulation through a network meta-analysis. The results showed that NOACs, warfarin, and aspirin were associated with a lower risk of thromboembolic events. However, there were no significant differences in major bleeding rates among the three treatments. The network meta-analysis ranked NOACs with the highest probability score for preventing thromboembolic events.

Summary: This case describes the successful use of one and a half ventricular repair in an infant with critical pulmonary stenosis at birth. The repair increased right ventricular end-diastolic volume and prepared the patient for biventricular repair conversion. The long-term outcome showed significant improvement in right ventricular function and feasibility for anatomic biventricular correction.

Summary: Fontan circulation is associated with decreased cholesterol levels, and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol is linked to adverse outcomes, possibly driven by inflammation. Further studies are needed to explore the relationship between the severity of Fontan-associated liver disease and lipid metabolism.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between aortic atresia and atrioventricular valve function and clinical outcomes after Fontan operation. The results showed that there was no significant difference in transplant-free survival after Fontan operation between patients with aortic atresia and patients with aortic stenosis. However, patients with aortic atresia had a much higher burden of atrioventricular valve failure.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the clinical and hemodynamic characteristics of Fontan failure in children listed for heart transplant. The results showed that elevated Fontan pressure is more common than low cardiac output in pediatric failing Fontan patients, and there are subtle hemodynamic differences between the various phenotypes of Fontan failure in children. Additionally, waitlist and post-transplant mortality risks differ by phenotype.

Summary: Treatment options for hypoplastic borderline left ventricle (LV) depend on the LV's development, including univentricular palliation or biventricular repair, while hybrid palliation can defer major surgery. This study evaluates the anatomical modifications of borderline LV after hybrid palliation. Echocardiography monitoring plays a significant role in assessing LV growth.

Summary: A study investigated the maternal and fetal outcomes of women who had undergone the Fontan procedure in two Polish medical centers. Among 26 pregnancies, 11 ended in miscarriages and 15 resulted in 16 live births. Fetal complications were observed in 9 live births, with prematurity being the most common. Obstetrical complications occurred in 6 pregnancies, including placental abruption, premature rupture of membranes, and antepartum hemorrhage. Specialized care from experienced cardiologists and obstetricians is necessary for these women.

Summary: This study reveals the critical roles of crystallite size and surfactant of Ag nanoparticles in influencing the electrical resistivity and thermopower in the temperature range of 5 K-300 K. The decrease in crystallite size leads to changes in phonon drag peak, with phonon drag minimum (PDM) observed in these nanoparticles. The modifications in electron-phonon interactions due to spatial confinement, barrier height variation, charge-transfer, and enhanced disorder are responsible for these effects.

Summary: Managing saline water through desalination or blending with low salinity canal water is a viable strategy for potato irrigation in semi-arid regions. The study found that drip irrigation with saline groundwater resulted in a reduction in total tuber yield, while irrigation with mixed water increased yield. The use of 80% of recommended NPK was recommended to reduce costs and environmental pollution without any loss in tuber yield.

Summary: Agriculture intensification and land use changes have significant impacts on carbon pool and storage in the soils of the Himalayan foothills. Soil erosion by water is a common issue in this area, leading to concerns about accelerated soil carbon loss and increased carbon emissions. This study assessed the impact of conservation practices, including different tillage methods and mulching, on carbon losses through soil erosion. The results showed that conservation tillage practices resulted in comparable or even greater carbon concentration in runoff water compared to conventional tillage. Mulching and intercropping with pulses effectively reduced carbon losses by reducing runoff generated during rainfall events. The carbon loss in sediments ranged from 1.5% to 2%, with the highest loss occurring under conventional tillage and the lowest under zero tillage with mulching. The study also observed a high carbon enrichment ratio of 3.3% to 4.4%.
