Summary: This study aimed to evaluate and assess the impact of post-tracheostomy scars on quality of life. The results showed that patients with a tracheostomic tube cannulation period of fewer than 15 days had better cosmetic results than those with tracheostomic tubes for more than 15 days. The Dermatology Life Quality Index scores indicated that post-tracheostomy scarring in this study had no effect on the person's quality of life.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between life quality based on the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) evaluation and disease severity among psoriasis patients in China. The study found that life quality based on DLQI evaluation was positively correlated with disease severity, especially among male patients and those with higher body mass index (BMI). Therefore, it is recommended that clinicians consider DLQI evaluation as an important indicator during patient treatment.

Summary: This study compared the quality of life and voice in patients with or without permanent hypoparathyroidism after total thyroidectomy. The results showed that patients with permanent hypoparathyroidism had significantly impaired quality of life, lower voice quality, and frequent symptoms, highlighting the importance of preventing this complication.

Summary: This study developed an experimental value set for the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) by examining the relationship between time trade-off (TTO) utility valuations and DLQI severity levels characterizing dermatologically relevant health states. The study found that the social/interpersonal consequences of skin conditions had a larger impact on valuations compared to the physical/practical aspects, and there was significant heterogeneity across DLQI items.

Summary: We assessed the surgical outcomes of different minimally invasive and remote-access surgical approaches for thyroid cancer patients through literature review and network meta-analysis. The results showed that minimally invasive thyroidectomy did not show inferior results compared to conventional thyroidectomy despite the longer operative time. Surgeons need to prudently consider all aspects of patients to determine the proper surgical approach.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the surgical outcomes and quality of life between patients undergoing submental endoscopic thyroidectomy and conventional thyroidectomy. The results showed that the submental endoscopic thyroidectomy group had better scores in the energy/fatigue, emotional wellbeing, and general health domains. There were no significant differences in surgical outcomes between the two groups.

Summary: Meningiomas are the most common primary brain tumour and predicting surgical outcomes and quality of life (QoL) after surgery is still a major subject of debate. This study aimed to review prognostic factors affecting functional outcomes and quality of life and design a predictive score for patients treated for intracranial meningiomas. The findings might help tailor surgical protocols and improve healthcare resources allocation.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of scar satisfaction in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) who underwent total or partial thyroidectomy, and compare the influence of different subcuticular sutures on satisfaction. The study found that overall scar satisfaction improved over time, reaching its highest score at 3 months after surgery. Gender seemed to be associated with satisfaction, while age had no impact on satisfaction. The impact of thyroid cancer on patients' quality of life was relatively small, with no significant statistical difference.

Summary: Most patients with papillary thyroid cancer have minimal concerns about the appearance of their thyroidectomy scar, with preoperative concerns often stemming from previous surgery experiences or unease with neck incisions. Concerns about scar appearance decrease over time throughout the healing period, with the majority of patients being satisfied with their scar appearance by 6 months after surgery.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed patients with Minimally invasive nail unit melanoma (NUM) and identified risk factors for recurrence. Male sex, greater Breslow thickness, amelanotic color, ulcers, and nodules were associated with higher risk of recurrence or distant disease. A Breslow thickness of 0.8 mm was determined to be the optimal cut-off point for predicting recurrence risk after surgery.

Summary: Diffuse sclerosing variant papillary thyroid carcinoma (DSVPTC) is a rare variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma that mainly affects young patients and has distinct clinical, pathological, and molecular characteristics compared to classical PTC. Our study revealed significant age-related differences in DSVPTC, with more aggressive behavior observed in pediatric patients. Through targeted next-generation sequencing, we identified BRAF, KRAS, and TERT as the most important genes in DSVPTC with age-specific differences.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent purse-string sutures between January 2015 and December 2019. The results showed that multilayered purse-string suture had the shortest repair duration and effectively minimized the scar size. The average Vancouver scar scale measured at least 6 months postoperatively was 1.62, with a risk of hypertrophic scarring of 8.6%. There was no significant difference in scar assessment and risk of hypertrophic scarring between different surgical method groups.

Summary: The study identified risk factors for hypertrophic scarring following thyroidectomy, including younger age, male sex, higher BMI, prominent sternocleidomastoid muscles, scar location near the sternal notch, and a history of keloid development. Scar location near the sternal notch and a history of keloid development were associated with the prognosis of hypertrophic scarring.
