Summary: This study examined the potential of IMS-MS as a high-throughput method for the chemical characterization of crude oils, finding it to be either equal or better than GC-MS in classifying the origins of crude oils and greatly increasing sample analysis throughput. The study demonstrated the utility of IMS-MS for rapid fingerprinting of complex samples and showed its advantages over traditional GC-MS-based analyses in emergency decision-making situations.

Summary: Currently, MS/MS is widely used in metabolomics for the identification of metabolites. However, the structural identification of isomers remains challenging due to the similarity of their MS/MS spectra. Differentiation and identification of isomers using MS/MS can be facilitated by various techniques, including chemical derivatization, ion mobility spectrometry, ion dissociation techniques, and energy-resolved MS. This tutorial provides a comprehensive summary of these cutting-edge techniques and emphasizes the importance of isomeric identification in metabolomics for analytical chemists. Summary: The migration study of eight ethylene-vinyl acetate corks identified a variety of compounds including antioxidants, lubricants, and non-intentionally added substances. The analysis also revealed cyclic oligomers and breakdown products as part of the migration process, indicating potential concerns with using these corks for food contact materials.

Summary: The identification of lipids is crucial in lipidomics studies, impacting the interpretation of analyses and biological understandings. Mass spectrometry coupled with liquid chromatography is commonly used for lipidomics studies, providing detailed lipid identifications. Ion mobility spectrometry has also gained adoption, offering additional separation dimension and supporting lipid identification. However, the availability of software tools for IMS-MS lipidomics data analysis is still limited, especially for isomer identifications and integration with MS-based imaging. This review evaluates existing software tools and lipid identifications in IMS-MS lipidomics data using open-access data from peer-reviewed literature.

Summary: In this study, five different waveforms were characterized in terms of their transmission efficiency, IMS resolution, and resolving power, with triangle and asymmetric ramp profiles found to offer modestly greater resolution and resolving power compared to others. The research also revealed that separations were generally improved with higher TW amplitudes, moderately improved by lower speeds, but experienced decreases in signal intensity under extreme operating conditions.
