Summary: In this study, a method for the integration of L-cysteine and titania onto the surface of magnetic nanoparticles was developed to achieve high affinity towards exosomes and inclusive glycopeptides. Exosomes were successfully separated from human urine and hardly any exosomes remained on the materials after ultrasonication, demonstrating the good capture performance. Additionally, 146 glycopeptides corresponding to 77 glycoproteins were successfully identified from the captured exosomes, providing valuable insights for the exploration of biological markers, especially disease-related ones.

Summary: Protein phosphorylation and O-linked glycosylation are critical posttranslational modifications that target identical amino acid residues and generate crosstalk. This study established a method for the simultaneous enrichment and sequential elution of O-linked glycopeptides and phosphopeptides, providing a valuable tool for analyzing the crosstalk between these two modifications.

Summary: Water-soluble copper-containing xylan sulfates (Cu-XS) were synthesized for the first time using the ion exchange method, and their composition and structure were studied. The interaction between copper and xylan sulfate resulted in the formation of copper (II) ions, which reduced the thermal stability of the composite.

Summary: Ion-exchange chromatography was used to separate the biologically active extracellular biopolymer produced by D. chlorelloides into ten fractions. These fractions differed in terms of yield, protein content, monosaccharide composition, and molecular weight distribution. The dominant component in all fractions, except one, was rhamnogalactans, which were substituted to different extents by mannose and glucose.

Summary: Sulfate groups on cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) provide colloidal stability, and the introduction of sodium counter cations enables drying of the CNC suspensions without irreversible aggregation. Ion exchange is an efficient method to exchange sulfate half esters with alkali metal cations. K-CNC exhibits different rheological and birefringence properties compared to other alkali metal modifications.

Summary: Cross-linking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) is an emerging technology for studying protein-protein interactions and protein complex architectures. However, the current XL-MS technologies have limitations in revealing the scope and depth of cellular networks. Peptide enrichment prior to MS analysis is necessary to enhance cross-link identification for proteome-wide studies.

Summary: Reverse osmosis (RO) membrane technology is increasingly used for large-scale production of potable water. However, the acidic and unbuffered RO permeate can damage water piping networks. Remineralization using an ion exchange resin - bipolar membrane electrodialysis hybrid process can protect the water distribution network. This study investigates the use of preparative ion exchange chromatography principles for monovalent-divalent ion separation.

Summary: The study identified potential biomarkers for predicting the prognosis of patients with cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), showing that positive expression of G8-144 was associated with improved prognosis while positive expression of MECA-79 indicated poor prognosis. Both antibodies G8-144 and MECA-79 could be considered as favorable and unfavorable biomarkers for CCA prognosis, respectively, based on their mirror-image staining patterns.

Summary: In this study, the expression of Fut9 and Lewis X in the brain and retina was investigated. Fut9 was found to be expressed in cortical neurons and corticothalamic projection neurons. The loss of Fut9 resulted in a reduction in the number of neurons in the cortex and retina, indicating the significant roles of Fut9 in the differentiation, migration, and maturation of neural precursor cells.

Summary: This study revealed the mechanism of ppGalNAc-T18 ER localization and the function of each structural domain. It was found that the luminal stem region and catalytic domain of ppGalNAc-T18 are essential for ER localization, while the lectin domain and N-glycosylation are not required. The findings provide insights into the subcellular localization mechanism of ppGalNAc-T18 and its role in non-catalytic O-GalNAc glycosylation activity.
