Summary: CTCs can be used for predicting recurrence in CRC patients. CTC clusters/microemboli have higher correlation with metastasis, and when both the number of CTCs and serum CEA levels are high, the prognosis in CRC patients may be worse.

Summary: Integrating hyperbolic metamaterials with highly luminescent silver metal nanoclusters has enabled strong stimulated emission, enhancing light emission by about 35 times compared to integration with a silicon substrate. This approach provides a plausible method for achieving stimulated laser action from metal nanoclusters.

Summary: Insufficient prognosis of local recurrence in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients contributes to poor progression-free survival rate and death. This study investigated the potential of plasma/exosomal microRNA-21 (miR-21) expressions in predicting CRC recurrence and the possibility of improving prognostic efficacy in early CRC recurrence by combining biomarkers. The results showed significant correlations between plasma and exosomal miR-21 expressions, as well as similar correlations with other biomarkers. Different values of predicting CRC recurrence were observed in stratified patients based on high levels of exosomal miR-21 and plasma miR-21. Furthermore, the use of circulating tumour cells/microemboli (CTCs/CTM) as sensitive biomarkers showed comparable or even better performances in predicting CRC recurrence in late-stage patients. Therefore, analyzing combined biomarkers could improve the efficacy of prognosing CRC recurrence and differentiate recurrence in stratified patients.

Summary: In this study, the controlled self-assembly of star-block polystyrene-blockpolydimethylsiloxane (PS-b-PDMS) thin films was directly visualized using in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations. The self-alignment process of film-spanning perpendicular cylinders in the block copolymer (BCP) thin films was investigated under low-dose conditions using an environmental chip with a built-in microheater. The time-resolved self-alignment process was systematically compared between symmetric and asymmetric conditions, providing comprehensive insights into the nucleation and growth mechanism.

Summary: Temperature dynamically regulates the reactivity of biomolecules in the cellular environment, including solid tumors. This study utilized fluorescent polymeric nano-thermometers (FPNTs) to measure the intratumor temperature in co-cultured 3D tumor spheroids. The results showed that FPNTs have great stability, biocompatibility, and high intensity in a biological medium. They can be used as a multifunctional adjuvant to examine thermoregulation in tumor spheroids and provide physiologically relevant spatio-temporal information about solid tumors.
