Summary: Researchers have developed a promising method for selectively detecting amino acid gold nanoparticles. By adsorption, filling, and electrochemical dissolution, they were able to create nanocavities with the shape of the nanoparticles. Spectroscopic and electrochemical studies revealed the interactions between the nanoparticles and the matrix. These findings have implications for the selective and simple sensing of nanoparticles.

Summary: A colorimetric method utilizing gold nanoparticles for visual detection of melamine in raw milk was developed, with a detection limit as low as 2.4 ppb. The color change from red to blue observed by the naked eye in the presence of trace amount of melamine was attributed to the interaction between the thymine fragment and melamine.

Summary: We report the development of a sensitive colorimetric and Raman turn-off sensor based on gold nanoparticles for the detection of melamine in milk samples. The size and shape of the gold nanoparticles are controlled by the reducing and capping agent gallic acid. The detection limit of the sensor is found to be lower than the recommended limit, making it a potential tool for industrial use.

Summary: A low cost and environment friendly assessment procedure for the detection of hazardous lead ions in aqueous medium is reported in this study. By using biocompatible materials and gold nanoparticles, functionalized for selective binding of lead ions, a highly selective response with excellent sensitivity was achieved on a U-shaped optical fiber sensor probe. Validation with real sample testing confirmed the effectiveness of this approach with a detection limit of 1 ppb and a linear range of 1-7 ppb. The ease portability, rapid detection, and cost effectiveness make this scheme widely acceptable.

Summary: In this study, a novel N-rich carbon-coated Au nanoparticles (NC@Au-NPs) were fabricated and their catalytic efficacy and shelf life were boosted by applying a mixture of polydopamine (PDA) and benzimidazolium-1-acetate ionic liquid (IL) as a sandwich between the working electrode surface and the designed nanohybrid NC@Au-NPs as a redox mediator. The results showed that the designed NC@Au/PDA-IL/GPE exhibited excellent sensitivity, selectivity, and reproducibility.

Summary: The assessment of microbial contamination is crucial for ensuring food safety. A modern method for evaluating contamination is estimating ATP using firefly luciferase. This study found that gold nanoparticles stabilized with benzalkonium chloride and Triton X-100 enhanced the bioluminescent system, resulting in higher sensitivity for developing an ATP biosensor.

Summary: This study evaluated the catalytic activity of biocompatible chitosan-stabilized gold nanoparticles on the oxidation reaction, demonstrating high efficiency and long-term stability with low toxicity to cells. The nanoparticles showed positive correlation with concentrations of catalyst and oxidant, while negative correlation with substrate concentration. The results suggest the potential of CH-AuNPs as effective and reusable nanocatalysts for oxidation reactions.

Summary: A highly fluorescent, sensitive, and selective fluorometric assay for detecting Hg2+ ions was developed using vancomycin functionalized and polyethyleneimine stabilized gold nanoparticles (PEI-f-AuNPs@Van). The gold nanoparticles exhibited strong fluorescence properties with excitation and emission wavelengths of 320 nm and 418 nm, respectively. The detection limit for Hg2+ ion was determined to be 0.988 nM within a linear range, while in natural environmental samples it was 12.5 nM. The designed probe showed high selectivity for mercury (II) cations among other divalent cations.

Summary: In this study, a multinary nanocomposite was designed for the detection of theophylline (TP) and uric acid (UA) in blood serum, showing high sensitivity and selectivity. The multinary nanocomposite improved the electrochemically active surface area and electron transfer rate, leading to enhanced current response. The detection limits were found to be 0.18 nM for UA and 0.36 nM for TP, with sensitivities of 1.27 μA μM-1 cm-2 and 1.06 μA μM-1 cm-2, respectively.

Summary: Polymer stabilizers greatly influence the structure, size, and activity of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). Among the polymers tested, polyacrylic acid-stabilized Au NPs exhibit the highest glucose oxidase-like activity due to their small size and weak spatial resistance. However, further tests reveal limitations in selectivity and activity in physiological environments.

Summary: Plasmonic nanoparticles in dimer format are used for single molecule sensing, where the interaction with hairpin DNA leads to a shift in localized surface plasmon resonance. Spectroscopy may detect this shift, but point-of-care devices require a faster analysis method. By using dark-field imaging and digital analysis, the plasmonic resonance shift of thousands of dimer structures can be measured in minutes. The challenge is separating dimers from non-specifically bound clusters to achieve accurate results. The LAB-based classifier algorithm demonstrated the highest accuracy for this digital separation.
