Summary: Physicians need to take the lead in improving the value of healthcare for individuals and populations. However, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements do not explicitly include competencies in leadership, stewardship, and population health. This article describes the process of implementing an institutional curriculum in Health Systems Science (HSS) to address these competencies.

Summary: Health sciences curricular planners are facing challenges in adding new content to established education programs, particularly in areas such as public health, health systems, global health, and planetary health. A convergence model is proposed to build a common framework for students to integrate and align knowledge to individual clients or patients. This framework includes five areas that influence health and wellbeing, as well as methodologies essential to understanding health at both individual and population levels.

Summary: COVID-19 and the rise of racism and bias have had a devastating impact on health professions students, bringing to light the previously overlooked challenges they face. To better support these students, the social determinants of health framework should be applied, addressing financial constraints, neighborhood safety, and bias in educational settings. This framework can also be applied to the experiences of medical education staff, whose needs are often neglected.

Summary: This study describes the design and development of an interprofessional electronic medical record (iEMR) subject to introduce healthcare students to its utility in clinical settings. The research used a six-stage design-based educational research framework and implemented the iEMR subject in nursing and five allied health degrees. The study identified issues related to support for educational innovation, workload expectations, and infrastructure limitations. Overall, the findings are relevant to educators and learning designers attempting a similar process and highlight the importance of sustainability and curriculum management.
