Summary: In this study, mesocellular silica foams (MCFs) functionalized with primary, secondary, and tertiary amine groups were used as supports for Pt nanoparticles in the enantioselective hydrogenation of methyl pyruvate. The Pt/amine-functionalized MCFs showed enhanced activity and enantioselectivity compared to Pt/MCF, with 0.5 wt% Pt/NH2MCF outperforming 5 wt% Pt/Al2O3 in terms of performance and reusability. The excellent performance of the Pt/amine-functionalized MCFs is attributed to the strong interactions between Pt nanoparticles and amine groups, leading to the formation of electron-deficient Pt species.

Summary: The catalytic properties of Pt catalysts supported on mesoporous silica were studied in the enantio-selective hydrogenation of ethyl pyruvate. The results showed that the pore structure and size of the m-SiO2 supports significantly influenced both the activity and enantioselectivity. The use of specific modifiers and H-2 pressure further improved the performance of the catalysts.

Summary: Hydrosilylation of alkenes is an important reaction in the synthesis of organosilicon compounds. Transition-metal catalysts, particularly those containing noble metals, are commonly used. However, manganese, a low-toxic, low-cost, and earth-abundant metal, has the potential to replace precious metals as a catalyst, but research in this area is limited.

Summary: A series of hybrid Sup-L-Pd catalysts with different nano-sized supports, ligands and quantities of Pd were prepared and studied for their catalytic activity in C-C coupling, selective oxidations, and dehalogenation-hydrogenation processes. Among them, the HNTs-PPETS-Pd0.25 catalyst showed the most promising catalytic behavior and potential reusability in various catalytic processes. It demonstrated high turnover frequency values in catalytic reactions and good recyclability with low Pd leaching after consecutive cycles.

Summary: The study investigated nitrogen-modified carbon supports in the catalyst layer of a high-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (HT-PEMFC), focusing on fuel cell performance, kinetic, and transport-related voltage losses. Catalysts with different amounts of nitrogen functional groups were synthesized and characterized, showing reduced activity compared to commercial Pt/C catalysts. The improved performance with a low amount of nitrogen-containing functional groups was attributed to enhanced phosphoric acid distribution in the catalyst layer, which must be fine-tuned for extended cell operation.

Summary: In this study, Pt single atoms were selectively anchored on CoFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) by regulating the microenvironment, leading to improved activity and stability. The enhanced electronic metal-support interaction (EMSI) effect of three-coordinated Pt1 atoms on cation vacancies effectively prevented Pt leaching and exhibited exceptional catalytic performance.

Summary: Catalyst stability, resistance to deactivation, and regeneration are major challenges for high temperature reactions. This study investigates Pt alloys for propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and finds that silica-supported catalysts show excellent selectivity but their regenerability is uncertain. Oxidation in air and treatment in hydrogen can restore the lost catalytic activity, and in situ temperature programmed oxidation reveals two types of coke formed on these catalysts: one on the metal nanoparticle surface and another on the silica support. This work suggests that periodic introduction of hydrogen may prolong the lifetime of PDH catalysts.

Summary: In this study, Pt supported on Mg-Al oxide catalysts were prepared to enhance the hydrogen evolution rate in the dehydrogenation of methylcyclohexane (MCH). The effects of the co-precipitation reaction time during the preparation of Mg-Al hydrotalcite on their structural properties were studied, showing increased pore diameter and Pt dispersion with prolonged reaction time. The resultant catalysts exhibited high activity and stability in the dehydrogenation process.

Summary: A novel silica gel adsorbent SiO2-CHO-APBA was prepared and successfully applied for removing Cr (VI) from water and soil samples. The optimized conditions showed that SiO2-CHO-APBA had the highest adsorption capacity at pH 2 and reached adsorption equilibrium in about 3 hours. More than 97% of Cr (VI) was removed when 50 mg SiO2-CHO-APBA was added to 20 mL of 50 mg/L Cr (VI) solution. The mechanism study revealed the cooperative interaction of aldehyde and boronic acid groups in Cr (VI) removal.
