Summary: A series of novel naphthalene-chalcone gelators, Gb1-6, with different alkyl units, were designed and synthesized as potential low molecular weight gelators. The gelators exhibited gelation behavior in various organic solvents and fuel phases. The alkyl chains played a significant role in the gelation behavior of the gelators, with longer chains leading to higher gel-sol transition temperatures. FT-IR, SEM, and XRD analysis confirmed the presence of π-π stacking, van der Waals forces, and hydrogen bonding in the self-assembly process of the gel.

Summary: The prevalence of obesity and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing rapidly worldwide. Folate deficiency was found to increase lipid accumulation and leptin production in adipocytes. In this study, it was discovered that folate deficiency might aggravate inflammatory status and enhance renal fibrosis in diet-induced obese mice with CKD.

Summary: This study synthesized 20 chalcone derivatives and discovered that Cpd-2 exhibited strong anti-necroptosis and nephroprotective activities. Cpd-2 directly binds to RIPK1 and blocks the RIPK1-RIPK3-MLKL signaling pathway, effectively reducing renal cell injury and necroptotic inflammation. In animal models, Cpd-2 improved kidney function, reduced pathological damage, and inhibited inflammatory development.

Summary: Poor control of metabolic diseases can lead to kidney injury, including microalbuminuria, renal insufficiency, and chronic kidney disease. The precise mechanisms of renal injury caused by metabolic diseases remain unclear. This literature review examines the role of histone deacetylases known as SIRTs in regulating the pathogenesis of metabolic disease-related kidney disorders and discusses their potential as biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effect of Dapa against obesity-related cardiomyopathy caused by a high fat diet. The results showed that Dapa can reduce cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, fibrosis, and apoptosis, and alleviate cardiac dysfunction and remodeling caused by obesity. This protective effect is achieved through the inhibition of the MAPK/AP-1 pathway and improvement of cardiac inflammation. These findings highlight the potential use of Dapa in the prevention of obesity-related cardiac dysfunction.

Summary: This study discovered a natural compound, licochalcone A, with anti-inflammatory activity. It was found to directly bind to the protein MD2, which regulates the LPS inflammatory signaling pathway, and blocked both TRIF- and MYD88-dependent pathways. In vivo experiments showed that licochalcone A treatment alleviated acute lung injury (ALI) in mice by reducing immunocyte infiltration and suppressing TLR4 pathway activation and inflammatory cytokine production.

Summary: This study investigated the anti-inflammatory mechanism of Schisandrin B (Sch B) in macrophages and an animal model of acute lung injury (ALI) and found that Sch B directly binds to MyD88 to regulate inflammatory responses and inhibit the expression of inflammatory factors. The study suggests that Sch B has therapeutic potential for ALI and other MyD88-dependent inflammatory diseases.
