Summary: P-wave duration is an independent predictor for atrial fibrillation recurrence after left atrium ablation, and the risk of recurrence increases exponentially with prolonged P-wave duration. This finding can facilitate risk stratification by identifying high-risk patients and adjusting follow-up or interventions.

Summary: This study revealed, for the first time, a distinctive proinflammatory, profibrotic, and proarrhythmic signature of epicardial fat-derived extracellular vesicles in patients with atrial fibrillation, uncovering another pathway by which epicardial fat promotes the development of atrial myopathy and fibrillation.

Summary: Obesity is a heterogeneous condition that may have a closer link with cardiovascular disease burden and atrial fibrillation. Dysfunction of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) due to ectopic fat deposition is associated with atrial remodelling and may play a significant role in the development and recurrence of atrial fibrillation. This study provides an updated understanding of the relationship between dysfunctional EAT, LA remodelling, and atrial fibrillation onset and recurrence.

Summary: This study found that the occurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with P-wave duration (PWD) and interatrial block (IAB). Patients with longer PWD and IAB have a higher risk of AF. Therefore, PWD and IAB can be used as selection criteria for screening, follow-up, or interventions.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between left atrial epicardial fat and left atrial volume in patients with different types of atrial fibrillation (AF). The results showed that left atrial epicardial fat was larger in patients with paroxysmal AF, while larger left atrial volumes were associated with persistent/permanent AF.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) and PR interval in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF). The results showed that the total EAT volume was larger in patients with long PR interval compared to those with normal PR interval. There was also a positive correlation between the duration of the P wave (PWD) to PR interval (PWD/PR interval) and EAT volume in the long PR interval group. Additionally, a long PR interval was found to be independently associated with AF recurrence after ablation.

Summary: Unsuccessful endocardial ablation for perimitral atrial flutter (AFL) may be associated with epicardial breakthrough. This study investigated the electrophysiological characteristics of epicardial breakthrough during catheter ablation of perimitral AFL and found a longer EGM interval and slower conduction velocity in patients with epicardial breakthrough.

Summary: This study found an association between left atrial epicardial conduction time (LAECT), fibrosis, and atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after surgical ablation of persistent AF. Patients with longer LAECT were more likely to experience AF recurrence, while patients with shorter LAECT had higher collagen fiber density.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the duration of the inter-pregnancy interval and its predictors among pregnant women in urban South Ethiopia. The findings showed that the duration of the inter-pregnancy interval was shorter than the World Health Organization recommendation. Factors such as maternal age, education, contraceptive use, and breastfeeding duration were associated with short inter-pregnancy interval. Improving contraceptive use and breastfeeding duration are needed to maximize the inter-pregnancy interval.

Summary: The development of typical atrial flutter is related to functional and structural changes, as well as enlargement of the right atrium. This study aimed to assess P-wave duration and morphology in patients with paroxysmal and persistent atrial flutter. The results showed that patients with persistent atrial flutter had longer P-wave duration and higher creatinine concentration. The severity of interatrial conduction block was also associated with patient age. It is important for clinicians to restore sinus rhythm earlier in order to effectively maintain it over the long term.

Summary: This study evaluated the utility of P-wave duration/amplitude ratio (PWR) in quantifying atrial low-voltage areas (LVA) and predicting atrial arrhythmia (AA) recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). The study found that PWR was strongly correlated with LVA and the PWR model was superior to other prediction scores in detecting LVA and predicting AA recurrence after PVI.

Summary: The study examined the differences in gut microbiota composition between hemodialysis patients using beta-blockers and those who were not. It was found that beta-blocker users had higher alpha-diversity and a distinct beta-diversity, particularly with an increase in the Flavonifractor genus. These findings suggest an impact of beta-blockers on gut microbiota in hemodialysis patients.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between gut microbiota and subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The findings suggest that certain bacterial species associated with T2D, such as Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes, have correlations with cardiac structure and function. Changes in the gut microbiome, including the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio and levels of Bacteroides, may serve as potential markers for the development of subclinical CVD in T2D patients.
