Summary: The absence of an effective public model in developing countries has driven clothing brands to rely on a private voluntary formal model to manage suppliers' poor working conditions, but this model has been criticised for overlooking the root causes of these issues. This study suggests that buyers' unfair practices can drive suppliers' internal social issues, and proposes that buyers' justice can ensure suppliers' social performance. The analysis of survey responses from 97 suppliers in Jordan reveals that only distributive and procedural justice, but not interactional justice, are positively related to suppliers' internal social performance, and improving this performance can diminish supply operational risk.
