The aim of the research outlined in this paper is to demonstrate the implementation of a Cyber-Physical System (CPS) within the End of Life (EoL) processing of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE). The described system was created by reviewing related areas of research, capturing stakeholder's requirements, designing system components and then implementing within an actual EoL EEE processer. The research presented in this paper details user requirements, relevant to any EoL EEE processer, and provides information of the challenges and benefits of utilising CPSs systems within this domain. The system implemented allowed an EoL processer to attach passive Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags to cores (i.e. mobile phones and other IT assets) upon entry to the facility allowing monitoring and control of the core's refurbishment, The CPS deployed supported the processing and monitoring requirements of PAS 141:2011, a standard for the correct refurbishment of both used and waste EEE for reuse. The implemented system controls how an operator can process a core, informing them which process or processes should be followed based upon the quality of the core, the recorded results of previous testing and any repair efforts. The system provides Human-Computer Interfaces (Has) to aid the user in recording core and process information which is then used to make decisions on the additional processes required. This research has contributed to the knowledge of the advantages and challenges of CPS development, specifically within the EoL domain, and documents future research goals to aid EoL processing through more advanced decision support on a core's processes. Enhanced interfacial adhesion and mechanical performance of lightweight polyurethane foam reinforced with a low content of aligned magnetised short carbon fibres

Summary: By increasing interfacial properties between polyurethane cellular foam matrix and short carbon fibre reinforcement, the mechanical properties of a lightweight composite were improved. Surface modification of carbon fibre to incorporate magnetic properties allowed for alignment within the matrix during manufacturing process. The inclusion of magnetised fibres led to significantly improved mechanical properties in tension, but only slight improvement in compression strength.

Summary: Titanium porous scaffolds with different pore sizes were studied for their effects on osteoblastogenesis, with the conclusion that pore sizes of 106-212 µm and 300-500 µm achieved the best cell maturation effects, while bimodal structures with small and large pore sizes distributed distinctively and having 40% actual porosity outperformed others.

Summary: This paper summarizes the development of a novel system for monitoring performance in the strength and conditioning domain, presenting a framework for development processes and documenting software development and implementation using CIMOSA and UML. Corrective algorithms have been proposed to improve the accuracy of IMU outputs, and a wireless IMU has been validated for use in the strength and conditioning domain through comparison with an optical motion capture reference measure.

Summary: In this study, Ti-(0-30 wt.%)Nb alloys were fabricated using Selective Laser Melting process. The energy density affected the compositional homogeneity, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the alloys. Increasing Nb content led to the stabilization of alpha and beta phases, while in-situ alloying promoted solid solution strengthening and homogenization.

In-silico design and experimental validation of TiNbTaZrMoSn to assess accuracy of mechanical and biocompatibility predictive models

Summary: The numerical design of the TiNbTaZrMoSn alloy was conducted before its manufacture to predict its performance, and the experimental results were found to be in good agreement with the predictions. The study highlighted the importance of oxide layer thickness and surface potential in osteogenic activity, while cell adhesion and viability were less affected. The TiNbTaZrMoSn alloy showed slightly lower osteogenic properties compared to c.p. Titanium due to its thinner oxide layer and lower surface potential.

Summary: This study analyzes the characteristics of process parameters in three lean gas ethane recovery processes and establishes a prediction and multiobjective optimization model for ethane recovery and system energy consumption. A new method for comparing ethane recovery processes for lean gas is proposed, and the addition of extra coolers improves the ethane recovery. The support vector regression model based on grey wolf optimization demonstrates the highest prediction accuracy, and the multiobjective multiverse optimization algorithm shows the best optimization performance and diversity in the solutions.

Summary: The paper proposes a novel deep learning-based prediction framework, aTCN-LSTM, for accurate cooling load predictions. The framework utilizes a gate-controlled multi-head temporal convolutional network and a sparse probabilistic self-attention mechanism with a bidirectional long short-term memory network to capture both temporal and long-term dependencies in the cooling load sequences.
