Fulfillment of green chemistry for synthesis of silver nanoparticles using root and leaf extracts of Ferula persica: Solid-state route vs. solution-phase method

Development of an efficient, one-pot and green preparation method of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) is considered in the current investigation. Aqueous extracts prepared from different parts of Ferula persica plant (i.e., root and leaf) could be employed successfully to fabricate Ag NPs, actually via two different bio-reduction approaches. Field emission scanning electron spectroscopy (FESEM) connected energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR), as well as transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results evidently demonstrated the proficiency of solid-state route in the production of entirely pure and uniform Ag NPs (10-30 nm) with no aggregation using leaf part of the plant. Conversely, to fabricate Ag NPs using Ferula's root part, the solution-phase method was proposed as the best method of choice. In both methods, the efficiency of bio-reduction reaction in conjunction with the size and purity of produced Ag NPs could be controlled using adapting the weight ratios of plant extract/silver nitrate. Meanwhile, comparing to the chemically synthesized Ag NPs, the biogenic Ag NPs encompassed lower phytotoxicic effects on the germination percentage followed by shoot and root elongation of Matricaria chamomilla and Ocimum basilicum, could be accordingly nominated as an eco-friendly and more safe nano-material either in low- or high-AgNPs-demanded environments. The results, altogether, can open up a new avenue toward cleaner production of biocompatible, pure and homogeneous Ag NPs with high throughput and low-cost and eventually a reliable way to acquire sustainable/green chemistry. High and low oxalate content in spinach: an investigation of accumulation patterns

Summary: This study identified three biosynthetic patterns of oxalate accumulation in spinach and introduced a unique type with high oxalate accumulation, which could be beneficial for improving the nutritional value of spinach. The research also suggested a small role for ascorbic acid as a precursor to oxalate production in spinach, highlighting the significance of glyoxylate as the most critical precursor in this plant.

Interspecific Genome Size Variation of Iranian Endemic Allium Species (Amaryllidaceae)

Biotechnological Approaches for Enhancing Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) Production: Current and Future Perspectives

This review summarizes the biotechnological mechanisms used to increase PHAs production in bacteria and plants, and discusses new methods that have not been applied in the field of bioplastics.

Taraxacum kok-saghyz LE Rodin, as a novel potential source of natural rubber in Iran: a good candidate for commercial use

Summary: The effect of MeJA on the quantity and quality of NR extracted from TKS roots was investigated. It was found that treating TKS with 600 mu M MeJA for 12 h resulted in the highest impact on the relative expression of key genes involved in rubber biosynthesis. This treatment led to a significant increase in the total rubber content extracted from TKS roots.

Agronomic, phytochemical and drought tolerance evaluation of Iranian cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.) ecotypes under different soil moisture levels: a step towards identifying pharmaceutical and industrial populations

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify drought-tolerant ecotypes and medicinal and industrial populations of cannabis. 12 cannabis ecotypes were evaluated under different soil moisture conditions, and it was found that they had different responses to soil moisture. Some ecotypes were valuable in terms of pharmaceutical metabolite production, while others were valuable for fibre production. Therefore, tolerant and sensitive ecotypes should be considered in production and breeding programs.

Engineering of CYP82Y1, a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase: a key enzyme in noscapine biosynthesis in opium poppy

Summary: Protein engineering plays a crucial role in overcoming challenges related to enzyme function and can be applied to improve the properties of CYP82Y1, an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of noscapine. This article reviews the methods used to enhance the activity of CYP82Y1 and discusses potential strategies, including substitution of substrate recognition site residues, construction of fusion proteins, and creation of an artificial lipid-based scaffold. These approaches have the potential to accelerate the rate of noscapine synthesis by improving the properties of CYP82Y1.

Evaluation of Phycocyanin Promoter Function in Bacteria by Investigating the Expression of HBsAg

Summary: Promoters play a crucial role in regulating recombinant protein expression. This study evaluated the functionality of a phycocyanin promoter by using two co-vectors (PHK and PHGK) for HBsAg gene expression. The results demonstrated that the expression level of HBsAg was higher in the Top10 PHK vector compared to the Top10 PHGK vector, confirming the expression capability of the phycocyanin promoter.

Comparison of ethane recovery processes for lean gas based on a coupled model

Summary: This study analyzes the characteristics of process parameters in three lean gas ethane recovery processes and establishes a prediction and multiobjective optimization model for ethane recovery and system energy consumption. A new method for comparing ethane recovery processes for lean gas is proposed, and the addition of extra coolers improves the ethane recovery. The support vector regression model based on grey wolf optimization demonstrates the highest prediction accuracy, and the multiobjective multiverse optimization algorithm shows the best optimization performance and diversity in the solutions.

A novel deep-learning framework for short-term prediction of cooling load in public buildings

Summary: The paper proposes a novel deep learning-based prediction framework, aTCN-LSTM, for accurate cooling load predictions. The framework utilizes a gate-controlled multi-head temporal convolutional network and a sparse probabilistic self-attention mechanism with a bidirectional long short-term memory network to capture both temporal and long-term dependencies in the cooling load sequences. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method, which can serve as an effective guide for HVAC chiller scheduling and demand management initiatives.

The impact of social interaction and information acquisition on the adoption of soil and water conservation technology by farmers: Evidence from the Loess Plateau, China

Summary: This study uses survey data from the Loess Plateau in China to evaluate the impact of social interaction on the adoption of soil and water conservation (SWC) technology by farmers. The positive impact of social interaction on SWC adoption is more pronounced for farmers in larger villages and those who join cooperative societies.
