Objective: To investigate the correlation between MRI, clinical tests, histopathologic features of posterior tibial tendon (PTT) dysfunction in patients with acquired adult flatfoot deformity surgically treated with medializing calcaneal osteotomy and flexor digitorum longus tendon transposition. Materials and methods: Nineteen patients (11 females; age: 46 +/- 15 year, range 18-75) were pre-operatively evaluated using the single heel rise (HR) and the first metatarsal rise (FMR) sign tests. Two reviewers graded the PTT tears on a I-III scale and measured the hindfoot valgus angle on the pre-operative MRI of the ankle. The specimens of the removed portion of PTT were histologically analysed by two pathologists using the Bonar and Movin score. Linear regression, Spearman's rank-order, and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) statistics were used. Results: ICC for MRI was excellent (0.952). Correlation between FMR and HR tests was at limit of significance (r=0.454; P=0.051). The HR and FMR tests were significantly correlated to the Movin score (r=0.581; P=0.009 and r=0.538; P=0.018, respectively) and were not significantly correlated to the Bonar score (both with a r=0.424; P=0.070). PTT tendinopathy grading at MRI was significantly correlated to the FMR test (p=0.041) but not to the hindfoot valgus angle (p=0.496), the HR test (p=0.943), the Bonar score (p=0.937), and the Movin score (p=0.436). The hindfoot angle was not correlated to any of the other variables (p>0.264). Conclusion: For PTT dysfunction, there is high correlation between HR and FMR test and histology evaluated using the Movin score, while no correlation was seen for the Bonar score. Semiquantitative grading of PTT dysfunction at MRI only correlates to the FMR and not to histology. The hindfoot valgus angle is not correlated to any of the considered variables.

Summary: This study aimed to demonstrate the applicability of Snyder's arthroscopic classification of rotator cuff tears (RCT) in shoulder ultrasound (US) and compare it with MR arthrography (MRA). Forty-six patients underwent both shoulder US and MRA, and two radiologists assigned values based on RCT extent. The study found that Snyder's classification can be used in US to ensure accurate detection and characterization of RCT.

Summary: Bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation (BPOP) is a benign bone lesion characterized by a well-marginated mass of heterotopic mineralization arising from the periosteal aspect of the bone. It commonly occurs in the hands, feet, and long bones. Imaging shows contiguity with the underlying bone and lack of cortico-medullary continuity. Histologically, it is characterized by osteocartilaginous proliferation. Differential diagnosis includes both benign and malignant lesions. Treatment involves surgical resection with possible local recurrences.

Summary: This study proposes an advanced computer-assisted approach to analyze epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) in patients undergoing Cardiac CT (CCT) during statin administration, and examines its relation to body mass index (BMI). The study finds that statins can lead to significant quantitative and qualitative changes in EAT detected by CCT, and BMI influences the composition of EAT.

Framing Patellar Instability: From Diagnosis to the Treatment of the First Episode

Summary: The patellofemoral joint is a complex articulation involved in the knee's extensor mechanism. Patellofemoral disorders can be classified into objective patellar instability, potential patellar instability, and patellofemoral pain syndrome. Anatomical factors such as trochlear dysplasia, patella alta, and the TT-TG distance contribute to instability. Detecting and addressing these factors is crucial for preventing recurrent dislocations and optimizing patient outcomes.

Summary: Anatomical variants of the long head of biceps tendon are extensively discussed. Magnetic resonance arthroscopy is a quick method to evaluate the proximal morphology of the tendon, providing a good assessment of both intra-articular and extra-articular portions. Understanding the imaging of anatomical variants of the long head of biceps discussed in this article is useful preoperatively for orthopaedists and helps prevent potential diagnostic misinterpretations.

Summary: Bone fractures have a significant impact on the global disease burden and are associated with high incidence and economic consequences. Virtual reality technologies have the potential to improve procedural teaching and surgical precision in orthopaedic trauma procedures, but their adoption and integration in fracture procedures have lagged behind other surgical specialties. This study aimed to review the available virtual reality systems for orthopaedic trauma procedures and provide an overview of their technical features, clinical validity, and applications.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the associations between cardiac magnetic resonance feature-tracking-derived myocardial strain parameters and volumetric function and hemodynamic parameters in patients with pulmonary hypertension. The results showed that impairment of myocardial strains was more strongly associated with alterations in ventricular function parameters than elevated pulmonary arterial pressure, limiting the diagnostic information of myocardial strain parameters in pulmonary hypertension.
