Summary: This paper describes the hemostasis-modifying ability of tannins, compounds of plant origin and plant extracts, and their influence on the thrombotic process. It highlights the effects of tannins on platelets, coagulation system, fibrinolysis system, and endothelium, as well as their pathophysiology-dependent action. The low bioavailability of tannins suggests the need for further in vivo studies to understand their actual activity.

Summary: The study investigated the association between endothelial damage and immune dysregulation with organ failure, thrombus formation, and death in 82 patients with COVID-19, finding a direct role of endotheliopathy in organ failure and an association between dysregulated immune response and respiratory failure, liver injury, and death. Thrombi from COVID-19 patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation showed increased neutrophil accumulation and neutrophil extracellular traps compared to non-COVID-19 thrombi.

Summary: Uremia induces different effects on venous endothelial cells (VEC) and aortic endothelial cells (AEC) in terms of gene expression and secretory activity. VEC show increased expression of genes related to coagulation, while AEC exhibit increased expression of genes related to inflammation.

Summary: The lymphatic system plays a key role in maintaining internal homeostasis, and the coagulation state in lymph is influenced by various factors. The risk of localized lymphatic coagulation is increased by internal obstructions, external compressions, or abnormaally high lymphatic pressure. The mechanisms of coagulation in lymphatic vessels are complex and influenced by factors such as antithrombin imbalance, endothelial injury, and tissue heterogeneity.

Summary: Breast cancer patients with elevated plasma VWF levels are associated with poorer survival. Breast cancer cells induce ECs to secrete VWF and other substances, and this effect is enhanced by the presence of platelets. VEGF-A plays a crucial role in modulating breast cancer-induced VWF release, and VEGF-A released by breast tumor cells also promotes angiogenesis in ECs. LMWH can inhibit VWF-breast tumor adhesion and transendothelial migration.

Summary: This study examined whether brachial flow-mediated dilation (FMD) and carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) are associated with acute in-hospital outcomes in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. The results suggest that cIMT and FMD are not independent predictors of clinical outcomes in these patients.
