Summary: Hydrocarbon combustion is crucial in emission control applications, and developing efficient catalysts optimized for noble metal use is imperative. Pt-rich catalysts were found to perform best for both propane and propene oxidation reactions. However, contrasting trends in rate orders, active phase, and stability were observed due to different rate-limiting steps and interactions between the two compounds.

Summary: In this study, a novel hot-electron-based, non-trench-type photodetector exploiting pure photoexcitation in a thin aluminum film and leaky plasmonic modes at and between its heterojunctions is proposed, analyzed, and experimentally demonstrated. The device shows high external quantum efficiency and small active area. The optical absorption mechanism is unravelled through analysis and numerical computations, showing the significant contribution of leaky surface plasmon resonance and quasibound supermodes. The device achieves excellent performance at specific wavelengths and biases and could be applied in low-voltage, metal-based photodetection.

Summary: Carbonaceous nanomaterials have great potential in electroanalytical applications, but their structure-performance relationship is still not well understood. In this study, a systematic electrochemical characterization is conducted on a set of carbon nanomaterials to establish this relationship and highlight the sensitivity of electrochemical performance to structural properties.

Summary: Copper-silicon heterojunctions show higher responsivity and longer cutoff wavelength compared to gold-silicon heterojunctions in the sub-bandgap wavelength range of silicon. The advanced photodetection performance of copper-silicon devices is attributed to the relatively higher electron density of state above the Fermi level and the higher ejection probability.

Summary: We propose a novel Ag grating/TiO2 cladding hybrid structure for hot electron photodetection (HEPD), which combines quasi-bound states in the continuum (BIC) and plasmonic hot electrons to achieve perfect absorption and multiband HEPD. By combining quasi-BIC and guided resonance, our structure enables more efficient light harvesting compared to traditional gold plasmonics.

Summary: Researchers investigated the electronic properties of inorganic antiperovskite nitrides through first-principles calculations, revealing a linear relationship between tolerance factor and various physical quantities, and designed a promising antiperovskite alloy. They also made a comprehensive comparison with conventional halide perovskites to point out the future direction for device applications.

Summary: In this study, Pt nanoparticle enhanced broadband photoresponse in VA-MoS2 is reported. The integration of Pt NPs enhanced the optical absorbance of MoS2 and formed a Schottky junction, inhibiting electron transmission and significantly reducing NEP. The plasmonic-enabled photodetector showed enhanced responsivity and detectivity with a low response time, attributed to faster carrier transport.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of combining amide hydrogen bonding and pi-interactions on the pi-overlap between calamitic pi-conjugated cores in the solid-state. The results show that bithiophene diamides with ethylene spacers exhibit the maximum packing density and superior optoelectronic properties, suggesting a promising approach for the design of organic and polymer semiconductors.

Summary: The systematic investigation of three nonfullerene acceptors with chlorine substituents at different positions reveals the importance of structural regulation and molecular arrangement in improving photovoltaic performance. Chlorination can effectively enhance efficiency, with BTIC-4Cl-TCl-b showing the highest efficiency due to its quasi-3D network structure facilitating efficient electron transport.

Summary: The conductance of a series of 12 conjugated molecular wires, including 6 with ruthenium or platinum center, has been determined. The transmission through these wires is mainly through tunneling at the tail of the HOMO resonance near the middle of the HOMO-LUMO gap. The trends in molecular conductance across the series cannot be explained solely by single-parameter models, but require consideration of the complete molecular junction.

Summary: In this study, pectins from different parts of pomelo and grapefruit were investigated for their chemical structure and functional properties. It was found that pomace pectin showed the strongest emulsifying properties, while albedo pectin showed the strongest gelling properties. Pomace pectin had a high degree of esterification and medium molecular weight, while albedo pectin had the highest degree of esterification, molecular weight, and proportion of HG region.

Summary: In this study, fluorinated alcohols and phenols were investigated as bioisosteres of the carboxylic acid functional group. A structure-property relationship analysis was conducted using matched molecular pair analyses to compare their properties with other commonly used non-fluorinated bioisosteres. Physicochemical properties, such as acidity, lipophilicity, and permeability, were experimentally determined for representative examples. The results provide insights into the relative changes in physicochemical properties achievable by replacing the carboxylic acid functional group with fluorine-containing surrogate structures.
