Summary: The study utilized Fe(II)-sulfite oxidation and polyacrylamide flocculation (F/S-PAM) treatment to remove the bound water in waste activated sludge and improve sludge dewaterability. The radicals generated by F/S could decompose EPS, releasing bound water, while PAM caused re-flocculation of disintegrated sludge flocs, enhancing sludge filterability.

Summary: With the increase in sewage-sludge production, the pyrolytic disposal method has gained attention. Cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) and sawdust were used to enhance the dehydration process, resulting in reduced moisture content. The addition of sawdust improved volatile substance release and reduced activation energy during pyrolysis. Apparent activation energies ranged from 135.3 kJ/mol to 174.8 kJ/mol, and the nucleation-and-growth model was identified as the most appropriate mechanism function.

Summary: In this study, an advanced oxidation process using electrolysis coupled with peroxymonosulfate (E/PMS) was used to improve the dewaterability of waste activated sludge (WAS). The results showed that the E/PMS process significantly reduced the water content and capillary suction time of the sludge, indicating improved dewaterability. The generation of reactive oxygen species in the process damaged the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and reduced the viscosity of the sludge, leading to a decrease in sludge volume and improved disposal efficiency. Additionally, the E/PMS treatment also enhanced the degradation of organic matter and reduced the toxicity and bioavailability of heavy metals in the sludge.

Summary: This study investigated the sludge dewatering performance of two series of binary graft cationic starch-based flocculants with different hydrophilicity and charge density. With increased charge density and moderate hydrophobicity, the dewaterability of sludge was found to improve, resulting in lower filter cake moisture content and resistance to filtration. The structure-activity relationship of these flocculants was evaluated quantitatively using a second-order polynomial model.

Summary: The advanced oxidation technology of using ultrasound enhanced zero-valent iron/potassium persulfate can effectively remove carbamazepine antibiotic organic contamination wastewater, with ultrasound playing a key role in improving the efficiency of the reaction and expanding the pH range for CBZ degradation. The mechanism involves the generation of active radicals such as SO4·−, (OH)·, and O2(·−) which contribute to the removal of CBZ, with SO4·− playing a prominent role. The degradation process is promoted by the dissolution of iron powder, production of Fe2+ ions, and activation of S2O82- to produce sufficient SO4·− radicals, leading to the efficient degradation of CBZ.
