Summary: Among T1 colorectal cancer patients, about 1.8% have synchronous distant metastasis and 8.5% have lymph node metastasis. Factors such as younger age, positive CEA, larger tumor size, and lymph node metastasis are significantly associated with an increased risk of synchronous distant metastasis. Older age, female gender, Black race, positive CEA, and lymph node metastasis are correlated with worse survival in patients with synchronous distant metastasis.

Summary: In young-onset CRC patients, preoperative CEA positive was found to be a significant predictor of distant metastasis (DM). A novel nomogram containing clinical and pathological features was established to predict DM in advanced CRC patients younger than 50 years old, showing high accuracy and stability. This tool can serve as an early alert for clinicians to DM and help in developing better clinical treatment regimens.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a deadly disease with increasing rates worldwide. Caldesmon (CaD) has emerged as a promising biomarker for diagnosis and therapy. It was found that l-CaD is overexpressed in colorectal cancer and associated with preinvasive stages, while h-CaD is expressed in smooth muscle cells but not in cancer cells or normal colon mucosal epithelial cells. These findings have significant implications for the management of colorectal cancer patients.
