Summary: This systematic review compares different clear aligner therapies with regards to the presence or configuration of attachments. The analysis of several clinical trials suggests that attachments can enhance the effectiveness of clear aligner treatment, particularly in improving root torque, rotation, and mesio-distal movement. However, the evidence is limited for intrusion and extrusion, and there is a lack of studies on posterior bucco-lingual tipping/expansion.

Summary: This systematic review assessed the postoperative facial swelling and occlusion achieved with clear aligner therapy and fixed orthodontic therapy after orthognathic surgery. Four studies showed that clear aligner therapy and fixed orthodontic therapy are comparable in terms of postoperative occlusion and facial swelling.

Summary: The objective of this article was to determine the effectiveness of tooth whitening procedures when combined with orthodontic clear aligners. The systematic review included three studies that assessed the efficacy of dental bleaching using clear aligners. The results showed that clear aligners can improve tooth shade when used as bleaching trays.

Summary: This umbrella review aimed to compare the periodontal conditions of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment with clear aligners and fixed appliances. The study protocol was developed following the PRISMA statement and registered on PROSPERO. Systematic reviews with meta-analysis published in English without date restriction were searched across multiple databases. The study quality was assessed using the AMSTAR 2 tool. The findings suggest that there are slight differences in periodontal parameters between clear aligners and fixed appliances, but these differences are clinically negligible.

Summary: Retention is a crucial phase in orthodontic treatment, and both fixed and removable retainers can effectively maintain the results. This study assessed the efficacy of using removable restraints versus fixed solutions for long-term outcomes. Different retainer systems have their advantages and requirements in terms of patient compliance and maintenance.

Summary: The study shows that removable orthodontic appliances do affect the oral microbiota, with significant changes occurring just 15 days after the start of therapy, regardless of the appliance type. However, oral pathogen levels decrease significantly or even return to pre-treatment levels several months after the end of therapy.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis examines the impact of cancer and its treatment on orthodontic treatment success. It finds a strong association between radiotherapy, antineoplastic drugs, and reduced success in orthodontic treatment, especially in older populations. The review underscores the importance of considering cancer therapies in orthodontic planning to optimize results and minimize complications.

Summary: This systematic review evaluates the effectiveness of electronic consent (eConsent) in enhancing patient understanding, engagement, and acceptability of clinical trial information. The results show that compared to traditional paper-based consent, eConsent allows patients to better understand trial information, engage more actively, and rate the consent process as more acceptable and usable.

Summary: This systematic review examines the effectiveness of electronic consent (eConsent) compared to traditional paper-based consent. The findings show that patients using eConsent have a better understanding of study information, greater engagement with content, and find the consenting process more acceptable and usable. eConsent has the potential to address data quality concerns related to flawed consenting processes.

Summary: This cross-sectional study surveyed orthodontic clear aligner therapy (CAT) practices among orthodontists in Australia. The majority of orthodontists provided CAT, but there were variations in their practices. The approval rate for digital treatment plans (DTP) was low, and refinements were common. Orthodontists felt least comfortable treating patients with bilateral crossbite and deep overbite. There were diverse choices of CAT systems, and the preference for fixed appliances influenced the decision not to provide CAT.

Summary: The study evaluated the clinical effectiveness of clear aligner treatment (CAT). The findings showed that CAT is effective for mild to moderate malocclusions but less effective for severe cases or specific tooth movements. There were conflicting results regarding treatment duration, but CAT may lead to shorter treatment in mild to moderate cases. CAT had a higher risk of relapse but better periodontal health. The risk of root resorption tended to be lower with CAT.

Summary: The study identified 37 COS published in 2019, with some focusing on pediatric health conditions. However, there is a need to increase children's involvement in COS development and to clarify research goals. Additionally, relevant COS have been identified for 22 of the leading causes of global disease burden.

Summary: This retrospective real-world study evaluated the outcomes of clear aligner treatment (CAT) and patient demographics of patients seeking orthodontic re-treatment who had previously received orthodontic treatment in childhood or adolescence. Data from 2080 patients in Germany who completed their CAT between June 1st and June 30th, 2022 were analyzed. The study highlights the need for orthodontists and dentists to provide adequate information to patients about long-term retention and decision-making for orthodontic treatment, especially for re-treatment.
