Summary: This study investigated the early clinical course of moderate-to-severe UC patients and found that Korean patients may have more favorable outcomes than Western patients in the short term. Factors influencing medication use were disease severity, extent, and endoscopic severity at baseline. Long-term outcomes of these patients require further investigation.

Summary: Our study demonstrates that CD8(+) tissue resident memory T (T-RM) cells are the main activated T cell subset in ICI colitis. The pattern of gastrointestinal immunopathology in ICI colitis is distinct from ulcerative colitis at both the immune and epithelial-signaling levels. Activation of CD8+ T-RM cells correlates with clinical and endoscopic severity of ICI colitis.

Summary: The composition and diversity of saliva microbiota are not successful predictors for pediatric type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) or inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). However, the relative abundances of certain bacteria are altered before the onset of T1D, and the metabolic pathway PWY-5677 is predicted to be lowered. Investigating functional pathways might provide a better approach in searching for biomarkers for autoimmune disease in the future.

Summary: This review aims to analyze the population PK models of infliximab (IFX) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and acute severe UC (ASUC), and assess the impact of disease activity on IFX PK. The results showed that there are still many gaps in the current research, such as a limited number of models specifically developed for UC patients, a lack of studies on severe UC patients, and a lack of evaluation of predictive performance for the models. Therefore, more comprehensive research and adequate reporting and evaluation of the models are needed for clinical application.

Summary: CMV colitis increases the risk of colectomy mainly in the short term due to severe inflammatory response, early-onset complications, or medication treatment failure. There is also a potential correlation between CMV colitis and early relapse. Short-term therapy for UC patients with CMV colitis should focus on controlling systemic inflammation and reducing complications, while long-term maintenance therapy may not require more aggressive intervention.

Summary: Acute severe ulcerative colitis (ASUC) is a medical emergency that may require colectomy in patients who do not respond to rescue therapy. This study aimed to identify factors associated with response to rescue therapy in adults with ASUC and suggest future research directions. The findings highlight several clinical, hematological, biochemical, endoscopic, and pharmacological factors that predict response to rescue therapy and provide insights for clinical decision-making and improving outcomes.

Summary: The study found that the multidisciplinary team (MDT) significantly improved preoperative diagnostic accuracy, reduced the frequency of elective surgeries, and lowered the rates of clinical recurrence and additional surgeries for patients undergoing surgery for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Additionally, the preoperative nutritional status of patients discussed by MDT was better. The findings suggest that MDT plays a positive role in enhancing the diagnosis and treatment of IBD patients undergoing surgery.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is associated with an increased risk of developing lymphoma. However, the clinical and pathological characteristics of lymphoma in IBD patients are poorly understood. A multicentre case-control study found that the prognosis of lymphoma in IBD patients is not worse compared to non-IBD patients.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the histologic features predictive of prognosis in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and correlate them with endoscopic findings. The results showed that histological activity can help predict the prognosis of patients with mild endoscopic activity and mucosal friability observed on endoscopy may be a risk factor for disease progression.

Summary: A study found that the long noncoding RNA Gm31629 plays a crucial role in inflammatory bowel disease by promoting E2F pathways and cell proliferation, thus facilitating intestinal epithelial regeneration. Deficiency of Gm31629 may lead to worsened intestinal inflammation and delayed epithelial regeneration.

Summary: This retrospective observational study analyzed the cost of endoscopic resection and surgical resection for submucosal colorectal cancer. The study found that endoscopic resection had a lower total cumulative cost and comparable oncologic outcomes as surgical resection. Therefore, endoscopic resection can be considered a cost-effective option for initial treatment of submucosal colorectal cancer.

Summary: This study evaluated the visualization ability of ICG fluorescence endoscopy in colitis-associated colon cancer and used a deep learning network to predict the development of colorectal cancer. The results showed that ICG could detect carcinoma, adenoma, and dysplasia with high accuracy, and there was a positive correlation between ICG and iNOS. The mechanism of ICG retention in cancer cells was related to intracellular nitric oxide concentration.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy, tolerability, and safety of mini-OST and conventional OST. The results showed that there were no significant differences in preparation efficacy, satisfaction, and tolerability between the two groups. The first bowel movement occurred earlier in the mini-OST group. The occurrence of adverse events was comparable between the two groups. Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of stenting-related factors, including endoscopists' expertise, on clinical outcomes after bridge-to-surgery (BTS) stenting for obstructive colorectal cancer (CRC). The results showed that the expertise of endoscopists was associated with better short-term outcomes, including high stenting success rate and low rate of stent-related complications after BTS stenting. The interval between stenting and surgery also played a role in postoperative complications.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the expression of multiple peptide hormones in rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and their clinical and prognostic implications. The results showed that several peptide hormones were expressed in rectal NETs, and tumors expressing serotonin or somatostatin were associated with lymphovascular invasion, chromogranin A expression, and shorter disease-free survival. The peptide hormonal expression status can classify rectal NETs into L-cell, enterochromaffin-cell, D-cell, null-expression, or mixed-expression type.

Summary: The incidence rate of herpes zoster (HZ) is higher in individuals with immunocompromised conditions and autoimmune diseases (IC/AID) in the Republic of Korea (ROK), especially in women, those aged 50 years and above, and those who have undergone transplants and hemato-oncology treatment. HZ in IC/AID patients leads to higher medical costs.
