Although a large number of reviews have studied different scales of forest ecosystem services, few have concentrated on accounting the spatiotemporal dynamic changes of forest ecosystem services in a region. To make a more accurate accounting, this paper selects intense data sets that assess the physical quantity and value of forest ecosystem services in Anhui provinces from 2009 to 2014. Regulating and supporting services such as water conservation, carbon sequestration and oxygen release, soil conservation and air purification are included in the paper as variables. Optimize analysis was further conducted in order to identify the spatial and temporal heterogeneity during the study period. We establish a dynamic ecosystem services assessment model with the coefficient of spatial heterogeneity and coefficients of scarce resources and social development to analyze the trend of the value in Anhui province. This model is designed for comparisons of forest services in different scales in Anhui province. The results demonstrate that the total value of forest ecosystem services is beyond the previous estimation while using spatiotemporal visualization. The implications are that the evaluation of forest ecosystem services should be measured more accurately with the help of big data in the future. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Small farmer's planting confidence and willingness to pay for leguminous green fertilizer: environmental attributes perspective

Wang Xin, Song Yanping, Li Tan

Summary: The study found that small farmers with planting confidence are willing to pay for different environmental attributes of leguminous green manure, while those without planting confidence are only willing to pay for specific attributes. Various factors such as gender, age, education level, degree of part-time employment, and trend perception of environmental change were identified as key factors influencing small farmers' payment preferences.

Using the Auction Price Method to Estimate Payment for Forest Ecosystem Services in Xin'an River Basin in China: A BDM Approach

Tan Li, BaoHang Hui, Le Zhu, Tianye Zhang, Tianyu Chen, Chong Su

Summary: This research proposes a novel method of using an auction price model to evaluate forest ecosystem services. The study finds that the willingness of farmers to accept payment for forest ecosystem service protection varies depending on the level of forest quality. Additionally, farmers' individual characteristics, household characteristics, planting characteristics, policy cognition, and ecological awareness also impact their expected compensation. This research provides valuable insights for the formulation of forest ecosystem protection policies and the promotion of sustainable forestry development.

Considering Farmers' Heterogeneity to Payment Ecosystem Services Participation: A Choice Experiment and Agent-Based Model Analysis in Xin'an River Basin, China

Shengnan Li, Baohang Hui, Cai Jin, Xuehan Liu, Fan Xu, Chong Su, Tan Li

Summary: This study examines the heterogeneity of policy preferences and willingness to receive compensation among upstream and midstream farmers in the Xin'an River basin, China, regarding the watershed ecological compensation program. The results show significant differences in agricultural waste recycling rate and agricultural water quality preferences between upstream and midstream farmers. The study also finds that social network size has a negative impact on farmers' willingness to participate in the program. These findings have implications for improving PES management policies, supporting sustainable environmental development, and rural revitalization.

Analysis of spatiotemporal changes in cultural heritage protected cities and their influencing factors: Evidence from China

Jing Cao, Tan Li

Summary: In this study, the spatiotemporal characteristics and causes of land use and landscape pattern changes in the Four Ancient Cities of China were analyzed using the PLUS model. The results showed that urban expansion led to increased land use diversity and landscape heterogeneity, adversely affecting the landscape pattern of ecological land. Factors such as altitude, socioeconomic conditions, and land resource policies significantly impacted the spatiotemporal changes in these cities. Both the land use pattern and the landscape pattern will become more complex in the future.

Balancing crop security and sustainable cropland use: Policy lessons from the Watershed Ecosystem Service Payments in Xin'an River, China

Tan Li, Yunyun Qi, Min Chen, Jing Cao

Summary: This study investigates the impact of Payments for Watershed Ecosystem Services (PWS) on the sustainable utilisation of cropland and crop security in Huangshan City. The findings show that the policy has effectively improved agricultural green total factor productivity (AGTFP) and encouraged crop stability and the sustainable development of arable land. The study suggests that similar policies can be extended to other agriculturally vulnerable regions for sustainable growth and crop security enhancement.

Natural attributes or aesthetic attributes: Which is more valuable in recreational ecosystem services of nature-based parks considering tourists' environmental knowledge and attitude impacts?

Ying Ge, Guoxing Xu, Qi Zhang, Xin Wang, Tan Li

Summary: Nature-based tourism provides important recreational ecosystem services for both local inhabitants and tourists. This study finds that tourists are more likely to pay for recreational ecosystem service attributes, especially for aesthetic attributes. Furthermore, tourists with more environmental knowledge and attitude are more willing to pay for reduced waste and lower tourist traffic.

Comparison of ethane recovery processes for lean gas based on a coupled model

Xing Liu, Qiuchen Wang, Yunhao Wen, Long Li, Xinfang Zhang, Yi Wang

Summary: This study analyzes the characteristics of process parameters in three lean gas ethane recovery processes and establishes a prediction and multiobjective optimization model for ethane recovery and system energy consumption. A new method for comparing ethane recovery processes for lean gas is proposed, and the addition of extra coolers improves the ethane recovery. The support vector regression model based on grey wolf optimization demonstrates the highest prediction accuracy, and the multiobjective multiverse optimization algorithm shows the best optimization performance and diversity in the solutions.

A novel deep-learning framework for short-term prediction of cooling load in public buildings

Cairong Song, Haidong Yang, Xian-Bing Meng, Pan Yang, Jianyang Cai, Hao Bao, Kangkang Xu

Summary: The paper proposes a novel deep learning-based prediction framework, aTCN-LSTM, for accurate cooling load predictions. The framework utilizes a gate-controlled multi-head temporal convolutional network and a sparse probabilistic self-attention mechanism with a bidirectional long short-term memory network to capture both temporal and long-term dependencies in the cooling load sequences. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method, which can serve as an effective guide for HVAC chiller scheduling and demand management initiatives.

Summary: This study uses survey data from the Loess Plateau in China to evaluate the impact of social interaction on the adoption of soil and water conservation (SWC) technology by farmers. The study finds that social interaction increases the likelihood of farmers adopting SWC, and internet use moderates this effect. The positive impact of social interaction on SWC adoption is more pronounced for farmers in larger villages and those who join cooperative societies.
