Summary: Copper is an essential transition metal in the body, but its imbalance can lead to neurological disorders. To solve this problem, a quinoline-based fluorescent probe was designed for rapid and selective detection of copper ions. The probe showed high selectivity for copper(ii) and had a detection limit lower than the tolerable level in drinking water. Its application in real-time detection of aqueous samples was also demonstrated using portable paper strips.

Summary: In this study, it was found that iodide ions in natural brine with high chloride concentrations can be extracted quantitatively without oxidation by using ionic liquids. The selectivity coefficients of the ionic liquids were higher than typical strongly basic anion exchangers. The extracted iodide ions can be used for preconcentration and determination of iodine, making ionic liquid extraction useful for the separation and concentration of iodide from brines.

Summary: Rapid industrialization and manufacturing expansion have led to heavy metal pollution, a critical environmental issue faced by the global population. Conventional detection methods have limitations, leading to the development of novel nanosensors. Carbon dots (CDs) have been proposed as an alternative for accurate detection of heavy metal ions in water systems. This review discusses successful examples of using CDs for metal ion detection, strategies to enhance their photoluminescence properties, and challenges for further research.

Summary: A method of dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (D mu-SPE) using graphene oxide and complexing reagents neocuproine or batocuproine is presented for the preconcentration of trace metal ions (Pb, Cd, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn). The metal ions form cationic complexes and are adsorbed on the graphene oxide surface. Various factors such as pH, eluent, neocuproine and batocuproine amount, mixing time, and sample volume were optimized. The method was validated and applied for metal level determination in food samples.
