Summary: In this study, a Temporin L analogue, [Nle(1), dLeu(9), dLys(10)]TL, was developed, which exhibited more efficient antimicrobial activity and induced membrane destabilization and deformation in bacterial membranes. The modification increased the peptide's hydrophobicity without affecting its anti-inflammatory activity compared to the lead peptide.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of alanine replacement on the structure of peptides LR5 (LHKFR) and YR6 (YGLYPR) and found that it enhanced hydrophobicity and subsequently increased the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of the peptides. The results also indicated that the hydrophobicity of the peptides was associated with their amino acid composition and specific sequence.

Summary: The study shows that riclin can protect the skin from UVB-induced damage, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Riclin increases collagen expression and inhibits oxidation and melanin synthesis. In vivo experiments on mice demonstrate that riclin effectively reduces UVB-induced skin damage and suppresses inflammation.

Summary: Clark et al. comprehensively explore the primary structural features underlying the activity of a complete set of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). They find that the shortest active peptides were 4 or 5 residues in length, with activity being associated with 40% arginine, and multiple adjacent tryptophan residues. This study provides insights into the design of effective AMPs.

Summary: This study presents the optimized synthesis of JH-VII-139-1 and its c(RGDyK) peptide conjugates, and investigates their chemostability, cytotoxic and antiangiogenic properties. Most conjugates retained mid nanomolar-level inhibitory activity against SRPK1 kinase, and two conjugates showed antiproliferative effects against multiple cancer cells. In vivo zebrafish screening assays demonstrated the ability of the synthesized conjugates to inhibit intersegmental vessels. Additionally, flow cytometry experiments revealed receptor-mediated endocytosis of the conjugates in specific cancer cells.

Summary: In this study, ellagic acid (EA) and anti-inflammatory peptide (FPL) loaded chitosan nanoparticles (FPL/EA NPs) were prepared using the ionic gelation method. The synthesized nanoparticles had a spherical shape, with an average size of 308.33 +/- 4.61 nm, a high encapsulation capacity, and sustainable release of EA/FPL. The stability of the nanoparticles was evaluated and significant anti-inflammatory activity was observed.

Summary: The ethanol extract of flaxseed was found to have significant antitumor, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. It exhibited potent in vitro antioxidant activity and inhibitory effects on different cell lines. In vivo studies showed that the extract reduced tumor growth and oxidative stress in mice. The phenolic content and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the extract are believed to contribute to its antiproliferative activity.

Summary: This study evaluated the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-arthritic activities of Coronopus didymus. The extracts showed significant free radical scavenging activity and inhibited protein denaturation, as well as reducing inflammation and edema in arthritic rats. The extracts also had positive effects on blood parameters and oxidative stress biomarkers. These activities may be attributed to the presence of quercetin, ferulic acid, dihydromyricetin, apigenin, vitexin, and kaempferol in the extracts.

Summary: A new small library of molecules containing bis-urea/thiourea pendants in lysine conjugated to three different heterocycles has been synthesized and shown to exhibit potent antimicrobial activity. The presence of urea/thiourea, substituent, and heterocycle is found to be crucial for exerting strong biological effects, with isoxazole being particularly beneficial. Docking studies have demonstrated exceptional binding efficiency for some of the active compounds, indicating their potential as drug candidates for microbial-related diseases.
