Summary: Studies have shown that hyperoside from Zanthoxylum bungeanum leaves can prevent type 2 diabetes by inhibiting excessive ROS formation and reducing pancreatic beta-cells apoptosis. HZL significantly ameliorated glucose metabolism and insulin secretion damage, restored pancreatic structural integrity, and inhibited beta-cell apoptosis in diabetic mice. Moreover, HZL restored pancreatic antioxidant enzyme activities and insulin secretion in cultured MIN6 cells.

Summary: In this study, a novel and efficient continuous process was developed for the extraction and separation of hyperoside and quercitrin from Zanthoxylum bungeanum leaves. The process involved the use of aqueous two-phase system, back-extraction with dichloromethane-water system, and S-8 macroporous resin for salt removal. The method achieved high recoveries and purity, and showed potential for industrial production.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different drying methods on the qualities of Zanthoxylum bungeanum leaves. Vacuum drying treatment retained the original color of leaves to a greater extent. Heat air drying showed the highest antioxidant capacities. Different drying methods had variations in the number and contents of volatile organic compounds.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the alleviation effect of Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim. (ZBM) on high-fat diet-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and explore the mechanisms by analyzing liver transcriptome, gut microbiota, and fecal metabolites. The results showed that ZBM could alleviate high-fat diet-induced NAFLD by regulating fatty acid and cholesterol metabolism, rebalancing gut microbiota dysbiosis, and regulating metabolic profiles.

Summary: The study detected 52 volatile compounds from 11 cultivars of Zanthoxylum bungeanum and identified three chemotypes. The optimal harvest period for Z. bungeanum leaves was determined, and the localization of terpenoids in the oil cells of Z. bungeanum leaves was examined. The results contribute to the understanding and utilization of Z. bungeanum resources.

Summary: This study investigated the flavonoid components and the mechanism of flavonoid biosynthesis in Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim. leaves under drought stress. Metabolome and transcriptome analysis revealed 231 individual flavonoids, with flavones and flavonols being the most abundant. The study also found that drought stress affected the flavonoid content in the leaves.

Summary: This study explored the amino acid component in Z. bungeanum leaves and the accumulation mechanism under drought stress in two cultivars. The results showed that most individual amino acids increased under progressive drought stress. The study also revealed the important role of specific genes in regulating amino acid synthesis. This research provides useful information for the development of Z. bungeanum leaves in the food and nutrition industry.

Summary: The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of Zanthoxylum bungeanum pericarps and leaves from different regions were analyzed, and distinct differences were found in their compositions. HS-GC-IMS and HS-SPME-GC-MS techniques were effective in identifying differential markers, which can be used to distinguish between different origins of Sichuan pepper products.

Summary: The study found that hordenine (Hor) can inhibit lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury (ALI) by alleviating the disease through anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Hor can suppress the increase in inflammatory cytokine levels and exert its effects by regulating multiple signaling pathways.

Summary: The study evaluated the ameliorative effects of hydroxy-alpha-sanshool (HAS) on type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The results showed that HAS significantly reduced blood glucose levels, improved pathological changes in the liver and pancreas, and increased liver glycogen content. Furthermore, HAS promoted glucose uptake and glycogen synthesis by activating the PI3K/Akt/GSK-3β/GS signaling pathway.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of Zanthoxylum bungeanum seed oil (ZBSO) on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The results showed that ZBSO inhibited the inflammatory response and oxidative stress induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in lung epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) by suppressing the TLR4/MyD88/NF-kappa B signaling pathway. ZBSO may be a promising therapeutic candidate for COPD treatment.

Summary: The interaction between liver cancer cells and the extracellular matrix can induce cholangiocytic differentiation and switch the behavior of liver cancer cells from a proliferative to an invasive phenotype. This partially explains the differences in behavior between hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC).
