Heterotrimeric G proteins can be divided into Gi, Gs, Gq/11, and G12/13 subfamilies according to their a subunits. The main function of G proteins is transducing signals from G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), a family of seven transmembrane receptors. In recent years, studies have demonstrated that GPCRs interact with Gq, a member of the Gq/11 subfamily of G proteins. This interaction facilitates the vital role of this family of proteins in immune regulation and autoimmunity, particularly for Gq, which is considered the functional a subunit of Gq protein. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms through which Gq-coupled receptors control autoreactive lymphocytes is critical and may provide insights into the treatment of autoimmune disorders. In this review, we summarize recent advances in studies of the role of Gq-coupled receptors in autoimmunity, with a focus on their pathologic role and downstream signaling.

Neurological Involvement in Patients With Primary Sjogren's Syndrome

Guihua Fan, Fan Dai, Shiju Chen, Yuechi Sun, Hongyan Qian, Guomei Yang, Yuan Liu, Guixiu Shi

Summary: Neurological involvement is common in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) and needs careful evaluation. Patients with pSS with high anti-SSA titers and low anti-SSB presence may have a relatively high risk of developing neurological involvement. Future studies should focus on identifying biomarkers for early diagnosis of neurological involvement in patients with pSS.

The circRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network in systemic lupus erythematosus

Junhui Zhang, Yuan Liu, Guixiu Shi

Summary: This study identified 29 differentially expressed circRNAs and constructed a regulatory network including 8 DECs, 4 miRNAs, and 13 mRNAs, providing novel insights into the role circRNAs play in the regulation network of SLE. Further verification through experiments and clinical studies is needed.

Early diagnosis and treatment for Sjogren's syndrome: current challenges, redefined disease stages and future prospects

Bin Wang, Shiju Chen, Qing Zheng, Yan Li, Xinwei Zhang, Jingxiu Xuan, Yuan Liu, Guixiu Shi

Summary: Challenges and unmet needs exist in the early diagnosis and management of Sjogren's syndrome, partly due to lack of understanding of the early stages of the disease. Findings suggest a redefined course of SjS with 4 stages, emphasizing the importance of studying pathological processes and identifying useful biomarkers for early diagnosis and treatment.

Summary: This study examined the predictive model for flare in axSpA patients, finding significant associations between active sacroiliitis on MRI, anti-TNF-alpha treatment, and disease flares. The nomogram prediction model showed better performance in discriminating and calibrating in clinical practice.

IL-14α as a Putative Biomarker for Stratification of Dry Eye in Primary Sjogren's Syndrome

Yichen Liang, Zhenhua Xian, Dehua Fu, Shuang Liu, Yang Yao, Yuebo Jin, Chun Gao, Long Shen, Guixiu Shi, Jing He

Summary: This study evaluated the potential of IL-14 alpha as a biomarker for dry eye in primary Sjogren's syndrome and its correlation with BAFF in different patient groups. The results indicated that IL-14 alpha and BAFF could serve as critical cytokine biomarkers for the stratification of dry eye in pSS, providing insights for non-invasive diagnosis methods.
