Summary: This study compared the reporting quality of systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy studies using the PRISMA-DTA and original PRISMA checklists. The results showed that PRISMA-DTA identified more reporting issues, especially in critical sections such as title, abstract, and methods, compared to PRISMA-2009 and PRISMA-2020. However, PRISMA-DTA was not commonly used by researchers and was inadequately endorsed by imaging journals. Therefore, there is a strong need for authors and journals to more widely adopt PRISMA-DTA for reporting diagnostic test accuracy systematic reviews.

While meta-analyses can help resolve disputes and generate new questions, the quality of the publications depends on transparent and reproducible reporting by the authors. Improving reporting quality may require referencing guidelines and using structured methods.

It found that the average score for fully reported PRISMA-A items was 5.4 out of 12. Cochrane reviews had higher scores than non-Cochrane reviews, and adherence to PRISMA-A was associated with word count and structure of abstracts. No improvements were observed in abstract reporting after the implementation of PRISMA-A in 2013.
