Summary: Diagnosing atopic dermatitis (AD) in infants is challenging, the study found that using the UK Working Party (UKWP) and Hanifin and Rajka (H&R) criteria can determine the incidence and persistence of eczema and AD. The odds of AD were lower when eczema first appeared at 6 or 12 months, and higher in infants with eczema at multiple visits.

Summary: The overall prevalence of physician-diagnosed atopic dermatitis in Greenlandic children aged 0-7 years is 35%, indicating a high prevalence and a likely increase over the past 20 years. Atopic dermatitis is significantly associated with Inuit descent, parental atopic disposition, and higher socioeconomic status.

Summary: The study found significant variation in the patterns of eczema, wheeze, and rhinitis morbidity, with multimorbidity being rare but significantly overrepresented. Infantile eczema was associated with subsequent multimorbidity, but the majority of children with eczema did not progress to any comorbidities.

Summary: The risk variants of HRNR and FLG2 genes are associated with atopic eczema, allergic sensitization, and susceptibility to the complex phenotype-asthma plus eczema. These effects may be modulated by gene-gene interactions, and these genetic variants can also be considered as predictive biomarkers for eczema-associated asthma.

Summary: The study found significantly lower levels of natural moisturizing factors (NMF) in children with atopic dermatitis compared to healthy controls, with differences related to the severity of past dermatitis. Early moisturizer use was negatively correlated with NMF levels, and there was a genetic influence of FLG gene variants on NMF levels.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the association between gut microbiota and infant health, including temperament, gastrointestinal disorders, eczema, asthma, and developmental delays. By collecting diverse biological samples and conducting follow-ups on pregnant mothers and infants, this study is expected to provide a better understanding of the colonization and development of the gut microbiome during early life and its impact on infant health.

Summary: Congenital melanocytic naevus (CMN) is a rare skin condition that can be associated with abnormalities of the central nervous system (CNS). This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of neurological involvement in patients with CMN and summarize the specific neurological signs, symptoms, and MRI abnormalities reported in the medical literature. The results showed that neurological signs and symptoms were relatively common in CMN patients, with neurodevelopmental delay and seizures being the most frequently reported. CNS melanocytosis and hydrocephalus were the most frequently reported MRI abnormalities. However, due to low quality of evidence and clinical heterogeneity, it was not possible to accurately assess the increased risk of neurological involvement in CMN patients.

Summary: Comel-Netherton syndrome (NS) is a rare disease caused by genetic variants in the SPINK5 gene, resulting in severe skin barrier impairment and inflammation. This systematic review aimed to provide an overview of systemic treatment options and their outcomes in individuals with NS. A total of 36 case series and case reports were included, describing the effects of 15 different systemic therapies in 48 patients. Treatment options included retinoids, prednisolone, cyclosporine, immunoglobulins, and biologicals. Overall, immunoglobulins and biologicals showed the most promising results in improving the skin condition.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a self-guided web-based psychosocial intervention for adolescents with a visible difference who experience distress. The results showed a reduction in social anxiety symptoms among participants. However, no significant improvements were found for other outcomes. The study supports the use of web-based psychosocial support in reducing social anxiety in adolescents.

Summary: This case series suggests that IVIG, ixekizumab, dupilumab, and anakinra are safe and moderately effective in the short-term treatment of NS. However, a decline in effect was observed on the long-term treatment. These experiences may help clinicians and researchers provide adequate care and develop treatment for severely affected patients.

Summary: This article presents a systematic review and meta-analysis of anxiety, depression, and quality of life in patients with alopecia areata (AA). The results indicate that AA is associated with higher levels of anxiety and depression, as well as impaired quality of life. The psychosocial outcomes of AA are similar to those of other dermatological conditions. These findings highlight the importance of considering patients' well-being in the management of AA.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the severity and use of topical treatments in children with atopic dermatitis (AD). The results showed that the severity of AD in children was mild, and most of them used emollients daily. However, undertreatment was found. The study suggests that the EASI may underestimate the severity of AD and lead to undertreatment.
