Unconventional green transport innovations in the post-COVID-19 era. A trade-off between green actions and personal health protection

This study integrates the push-pull-mooring (PPM) model and institutional theory to examine urban commuters' intentions to switch to urban public transport in the post-COVID-19 era. The results indicate that regulative and normative environments, public transport's economic viability, and commuters' pro-environmental concerns and identities significantly influence their intentions to switch to public transportation.
Irrefutable evidence attributes environmental challenges, such as air and noise pollution, to unsustainable transportation, especially in urban settings. In this context, urban public transport is a sustainable mobility system with ecological benefits. However, limited research focuses on understanding the factors that promote urban public transport adoption in the face of disruptive events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This study integrates the push-pull-mooring (PPM) model and institutional theory to examine urban commuters' intentions to switch to urban public transport in the post-COVID-19 era. This study is the first to investigate the trade-offs consumers perceive between green actions and personal health protection in the COVID-19 context. Our results indicate that regulative and normative environments, public transport's economic viability and commuters' pro-environmental concerns and identities significantly influence their intentions to switch to public transportation. Furthermore, hygiene concerns and choice uncertainty partially moderate the tested associations. The study thus provides unique insights into the nuances of individual decision-making regarding public transport use. Leveraging our findings, we present implications for theory and practice. We also offer a possible framework for classifying consumers of green urban public transport, which can be used to create targeted communication to encourage commuters to switch to routine public transport use for sustainability and environmental protection.

Food waste and out-of-home-dining: antecedents and consequents of the decision to take away leftovers after dining at restaurants

Summary: The rising trend of eating out has led to an increase in food waste in the hospitality sector. Understanding the drivers of food waste generation and the intentions to reduce waste is crucial. Existing academic research in this area is fragmented, particularly regarding the intentions to take away leftovers after dining out. This study uses Behavioural Reasoning Theory (BRT) to examine the factors influencing diners' intentions to take away leftovers and their relationship with over-ordering and leftover reuse habits. The findings suggest that moral norms, reasons, and attitudes are associated with diners' intentions, which in turn are positively associated with over-ordering behavior. The study also confirms the mediating effect of reasons, attitude, and intentions, as well as the moderating effect of leftover reuse habits.

Digitalization and sustainability: virtual reality tourism in a post pandemic world

Summary: This study proposes a sequential mechanism of the interplay of antecedents and outcomes using stimulus-organism-response theory (SOR), theorizing VR tourism as a sustainable solution even after the pandemic. Through analyzing responses from 359 VR users, the model confirms the positive associations of environmental impact, pandemic travel anxiety, and eco-guilt with VR tourism attitude and willingness.

The effects of expert power and referent power on knowledge sharing and knowledge hiding

Summary: The purpose of this research study is to investigate the influence of employees' personal power on their knowledge sharing and hiding behavior. The study finds that employees with strong personal power are more likely to share knowledge, and the expected losses in power are associated with a reduced intention to share knowledge. The study also observes an increased knowledge hiding with expected losses in power. The optimal scenario for knowledge sharing is when employees' contributions are fairly valued and their reputation is not expected to change because of knowledge sharing. Overall, the study contributes to a better understanding of the role of power in knowledge transfer activities.

Diving into the uncertainties of open innovation: A systematic review of risks to uncover pertinent typologies and unexplored horizons

It also offers an overarching framework for future research and can be used as a risk assessment tool for managers engaging in open innovation.

Summary: While there has been significant growth in research on entrepreneurial ecosystems, our understanding of the relationship between entrepreneurial ecosystems and environmentally sustainable entrepreneurship is still limited. Through a systematic review of 77 articles, we identified four key themes: the sustainability of entrepreneurial ecosystems, the role of entrepreneurs and universities, and the outcomes of sustainable ecosystems. Our study highlights the importance of interactions between different actors in creating a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem. Future research should explore the effectiveness of entrepreneurial ecosystems in achieving sustainable development goals.

Caged, helpless but not bored: consumption values derived from over-the-top platforms during pandemic

Summary: This study examines the consumption values derived from OTT platform usage after the onset of the pandemic. It finds that functional value quality and social value are positively associated with functional value price and emotional value. Emotional value not only relates to intentions, but also partially mediates the relationship between attribute-level values and intentions. Additionally, the study reveals that premium subscription and increased viewing time moderate the association between attribute-level and benefit-based values.

Going the Extra Mile, Now or After a While: The Impact of Employee Proactivity in Retail Service Encounters on Customers' Shopping Responses

Effect of status threat on preference for cross-domain self-improvement products: The moderation of trade-off beliefs

Previous studies have shown that consumers often choose to cope with a status threat by purchasing status-related or hedonic products, but this research suggests that consumers who perceive the threat as controllable are more likely to prefer self-improvement products within their own domain. Furthermore, trade-off beliefs play a moderating role in the relationship between status threat and perceived loss of control, which subsequently predicts consumers' preference for self-improvement products across different domains.

All of the same breed? A networking perspective of private-collective innovation

Summary: Much research on open source software development has tended to overlook the behavioral differences between various developer groups. This study expands upon the private-collective innovation model using a networking approach and reveals the influence of network closure and positional embeddedness on technical contribution. The empirical findings show that network closure has a negative impact on technical contribution, while the relationship between positional embeddedness and technical contribution follows an inverted U-shape. Moreover, high positional embeddedness can counteract the negative influence of extensive network closure on technical contribution. These effects are moderated by different developer groups.

Human resource management system strength in times of crisis

Summary: During times of crisis, employees look to their managers for information and guidance. Sharing distinctive, consistent, and consensual information, also known as human resource management (HRM) system strength, makes it easier for employees to understand their roles. This study explores the factors that influence managers when sharing information with employees, and suggests that the interaction between managers' motivation and their cultural values can explain HRM system strength in times of crisis. The findings indicate that crisis severity and organization reputation have stronger effects on HRM system strength in countries with high uncertainty avoidance, but weaker effects in countries with high power distance. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

The effect is observed when economic inequality is objectively measured or experimentally manipulated. The study also identifies financial threat as the mechanism underlying this effect, which reduces consumers' sense of control. Moreover, it is found that a boost in the sense of control or stronger belief in economic mobility can mitigate the psychological threats of higher economic inequality and reduce the preference for personal control appeals.

Shaping extendibility: The influence of circular versus angular shapes on consumer brand extension evaluation

Summary: This study proposed a novel sensory marketing strategy using shape cues to influence consumers' reactions to distant brand extensions. The findings suggest that circular shapes lead to more favorable evaluations of distant brand extensions compared to angular shapes, and these effects are mediated by consumers' cognitive flexibility and fit perceptions. The influence of shapes on brand extension evaluation diminishes when a sub-branding strategy is used to introduce the extension product, but is not affected when a direct-branding strategy is used. These results were replicated across different product categories and cultures and have implications for both theory and practice.
